Personally I think most men want a beautiful wife, thin, intelligent, and loyal, while they get to be slobs, ignorant and promiscuous. That is to say on average we are not without our own contradictions but men and women are not the same. I couldn't give two shits how much money my woman makes.
Most men (that you speak of, but not actually most men) end up being victims of the stress placed on them as well as the chemicals shoved into their bodies. They end up being tired and fat because they can't get a grip on the steering wheels of their lives.
To want someone to be beautiful and take care of themselves is not unreasonable.
Interests in intelligence varies from person to person. Some people want a wife to be intelligent and quiet, some people want one to be fiery and less intelligent, some people just don't care and love them for who they are. Assigning a label like that on people is silly. There is someone for everyone.
Men aren't afforded the opportunity to really be ignorant. We have to rise to a certain level, especially in today's world where people have trouble finding a well enough paying job to even have a wife.
Promiscuity is not very average in men, either. It is not normal behavior to be promiscuous, and it is usually young men who have been a part of a more modern dating pool of awful women, or old men who didn't have a wife that gave them what they actually sought.

Any male who cares what their spouse makes is a direct result of the destruction of the economy and the brainwashing that women have to work to lead a fulfilling life. That brainwashing works on both sexes.
A man that is able to secure a stable and well paying job to support himself and his family generally pays no mind to their wife, often even preferring that they stay home, mind the house, have their hobbies, raise their children, maintain security over the home (and call the police if someone breaks in), etc.
Women, on average, care more because there is a primal instinct to be cared for by their male counterpart. There are different expectations written into the DNA of our being.
For me my mom was my mother, but she was very sick. Found men who had money and capitalized on it while using me as her shield and sword.
For me a woman as my mother who took many meds and ruined many lives still gave me a foundation to build off of.
Others would be a slum as her and her men, yet I prayed when I was young and seen the abyss they were in and did not like it.
My wife, the only one I would have ever married and came from the same neighborhood as me is one I did not want to not be dependent on me, nor I of her. I helped design our marriage in a way where she is her own person and she is capable of being independent without me. She has an mba and decades of work experience along with many certifications.
