From my understanding, in order to undo the protection previous presidents put in place for themselves and other politicians, Trump has to sign EO’s and PEAD’s.
Once Trump’s EO’s and PEAD’s were in place, they had to wait for all those ex-presidents and politicians to re-commit their crimes. As they were protected under previous EO’s that allowed them to get away with their crimes.

If murder was legal today, and someone murders someone, they’re innocent.
Tomorrow you make murder illegal.
You can’t then go arrest the person that committed murder the day before when it was legal. You have to wait for them to do it again under the new law.

My take is there has never been a limit on treason. Not even for the President. The comments the reporter attributed to the two former President are small fish. The real crimes they committed go to treason.
This push to get the 'right' to prosecute them for treason in the justice system are in my opinion only for waking up the public. They should and will be prosecuted by military tribunal. The whitehats just want the sheeple to wake up to their undeniable guilt.
Looks like it is to get people used to the idea of accountability again.
We need to make sure laws for capital crimes cannot be exonerated by EO's. If an EO has the effect of law then it must be lined up with constitution or its null and void. Can't believe it's not already the case.
Nobody can say for sure about these type of statements until they unfold. I would generally agree but this is 13 days from a delta, and if this develops further it's worth considering.
