No. Our driveway is 1/4 mile, couple tight switchbacks, with couple hundred ft elevation gain. During a snowstorm. We don’t get jehovas witnesses or other drop ins. She asked the fire officer who was talking with her (and had been managing the shitshow on the road) if he thought it’d be ok to leave it. I just happened to be returning from a different call (in a neighboring fire district). He said ask me since it’s my driveway. The turn out has quite a bit of space and she was parked out of the way, so not an issue, even if I wanted to be pricky.
Have never had anyone walk up during a storm asking for help. My wife always reminds me to close the curtains during storms...outta sight outta mind.
OR parked on the side of the road!!! I have seen a few (2) that have done that...I ask them if they need a jump start...I get the weirdest glare that could come out of a BEDEVILED SOUL...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I would bet its the only reason any of them bought EV's in the first place, they knew nobody was going to rent them. And now they can claim a tax write off on the loss.
Not enough customers want EVs because they are inefficient in less-than-ideal circumstances (short, flat-land trips in moderate temperatures) and the requisite infrastructure hasn't yet been built. And, Hertz probably knows about battery safety issues:
For a commuter car, an EV makes sense. I drive 65 miles each way to work, so that's about 130 miles a day. Plugging in an EV at home every night (or at work, as it's free there) - makes a bit of sense.
For a day rental - Hertz EV may make sense; pick up a fully charged EV. No service or maintenance. Drive it from airport to hotel, to business, and back - probably less than 200 miles and drop it off to be charged at Hertz.
But, for non-Tesla EV's; you have non-standard chargers, poor range, and poor support. Elon has had 15 years to solve a LOT of the issues the competitors haven't even thought of yet as an issue. Consider, SW in a Tesla is 100% Tesla controlled (seats, climate, transmission, security, infotainment) where in ICE it's a bastardized assortment from BOSH, AC Delco, Nissan, etc all kludged together. Ever try to update your car's indash?
The commuter scenario only works if you own your own home, have a garage, and make good money. So a large chunk of the population are not even in the market.
This is the same way the microwave oven, pc, vcr, color tv and pretty much everything started. High prices, buggy, and novelty at first. We have seen more battery development in the last decade than the last century. It’s just going to get faster, better and cheaper
Of course no one wants to rent an EV. Why would you want to travel somewhere only to have to find charging stations. Or if there is a charging station, what if its in a sketchy area?
Poor Hertz. Probably none of their staff informed them of the likely repercussions of the EV decision at any of their daily, weekly, monthly, semiannual or annual meetings.
Many of the frogs here would have told them we don't have enough electricity now and little plans for more. For free.
