Well depressions cause great loss. We are in a depression that's being masked by phony economic data. It's about to crash hard.
My wife is always wanting to give something to the bums on the street because they are old. She thinks I am an asshole because I don't want them given our money.
My reasoning is this, with very few exceptions most people get right where they made plans to be in life.
Those grasshoppers that played, smoked dope, took drugs, drank like fish are right where they planned on being, and they damned well don't deserve the money this ant worked his ass off, and sacrificed to save.
For me, the gift is the giving attitude of your wife. She is blessed even if her generosity is blocked by others. Your telling of her attitude is a blessing to me today.

Apparently you've never seen the expose' of them climbing into luxury cars as the media chases them to their parking slots. A lot of the hustlers do this for a living verses working. The others take what they get and run down for their next fix or bottle.
Like the pregnant lady who gets picked up by someone in a Mercedes at the end of her panhandling shift...she was raking in thousands.
Or the one caught on 60 Minutes a few years back that trotted around to a back alley, and was changing clothes before he jumped in his Caddy and took off when the crew caught up to him.
Someone said give food. I have had the wife get made because she offered food, and it was refused, and still she wants to give. I have seen videos where people gave food that was promptly thrown in the trash when they left.
The vast majority of these people want cash for drugs or booze, and many of the rest want cash because they are living it up on do-gooders dimes.
I saw an article from two college kids that when they graduated instead of getting a job and going to work made a 15 year career traveling the country panhandling. They had it down to a science on where to be, what locations in what cities at what time of year. They drove a nice car, stayed in nice hotels, and ate at the finest restaurants. They had saving accounts with big money when they finally gave it up. All because people are guilt ridden due to their own success in life. I'll never feel guilty for working hard and planning ahead, and I have no use for those that didn't.

Similar to frequent grifting for gasoline. Someone comes to you while at the gas pump or walks up to you in a parking lot asking for cash to get gas. I tell them bring the car or can and I’ll fill it. They say nooo...don’t want to inconvenience you...cash is fine. A guy in Golden did this to me at the King Soopers parking lot. I called him out on the fraud and he got angry. I got loud so everyone around could hear. He ended up leaving.

If they're of Boomer age they can collect a social security check and live cheaply in the country. Anyone that age on the street is there by choice.
My boss is a boomer and has 2 homes paid off, a Jaguar and collecting social security. He admits he partied through the 60s 70s and 80s and life was just easy. Had a convertible at 16, college paid for with summer jobs. Could walk into a place and ask for a job. And he grew up lower middle class as a Mexican.
Unless they were drafted for Vietnam and have issues stemming from that or are having issues with mental illness there really is zero excuse to be homeless as a boomer, they lived through the most prosperous eras of the USA.
Exactly. They lived in the era before our economy was based on interest and debt. Before the artificial scarcities and taxes on everything. Times were good. Which is why it's odd that so many of them rebelled and called their parents fascists despite their fathers killing actual fascists.

My mother is a boomer
As a child, she lived in a house that didn’t have a toilet or a shower indoors. They literally had to go outside to pee, poop, and to take showers. This was in Michigan, so even in the winter, that’s what they had to do. Today it’s 13°F in Michigan. But yeah… I’m sure it was fantastic taking showers outside in 13° weather.
This was a house that they rented. Eventually, it was condemned. That’s why they had to move. When they moved into the new place, my mom literally had to sleep out in Arizona room type place. Because her two brothers were smaller and they couldn’t be put out like that. At least they were living somewhere in California at the time so it wasn’t 13° for her to sleep in every night.
So, the next time you want to put your child or family member out on the patio to sleep, you tell me what a great life that is for them.

So just because your mother was on the extreme poor end of the spectrum doesn’t mean anything. My parents are boomers that grew up in the rubble of postwar Korea. Came here unable to speak English my mom worked in sweatshops and my father did manual labor.
They currently own a nice home collect social security and raised 2 kids on mainly my dad’s single income as a construction worker.
If my dirt poor parents who couldn’t speak English, had no education could become upper middle class just working hard there is absolutely no excuse for boomers that grew up here.

Already raised 4 kids and my oldest in in his 30s. We needed 2 incomes the entire time. Clinton screwed us with taxes. Ghwb screwd us with taxes, Obama did it on and on. The idea the economy was good is a lie. Just look at the concentration of wealth, some may be boomers but its in the hands of few. And millennial couldn't afford those houses in the best of economies.

Yeah, I was poor as dirt growing g up my parents were depression babies and my dad left school at 12 to work got polio at 19 in Korea. I was born 1962. Best economic years I was poor kid crabbing, delivering newspapers, shoveling snow. What is this boomer edge you speak of. Ever heard of Jimmy Carter and 29% house loans? I lived through going off the gold standard, we felt it. When Reagan came it all turned around for a bit while they greases the military industrial complex under the faux cold war bullshit so some people made money. I earned all my biggest money while trump was in office. I saw the opportunity he was making and jumped on board. I'm not wealthy but I have enough to live. Took me into my 60s to do it.
