Major European cities in Paris, Germany and Belgium were placed under siege by militant farmers across the continent tonight.
As night fell, some 1500 tractors were in place at six major junctions entering Paris, while agriculture workers called for more protection against rising costs, and for an end to the EU's green net zero policies.
France has told its farmers that any action to block access to Parisβs main market for fresh food would be crossing a red line as a tractor protest made good on a threat to blockade the city for an indefinite period, stopping traffic on eight main motorways into the capital in a row over regulations, pay and taxes.
It appears to be spreading.
More than 2,500 farmers from Belgium's northern region drove tractors toward Brussels to protest the regional government's plan to limit nitrogen emissions.
