The more interesting question is why would a 39 year old member of Congress throw away their political career in a failed attempt to prevent a pointless impeachment of the DHS Secretary? The Senate isn't going to convict, so why does it matter, and in fact I'd think the narrative that it was completely partisan would be better for the deep state.
Evidence and witnesses subpoenaed at the senate trial could be interesting and could lead to more impeachments which could lead to more subpoenas and so on…
The Democrats are not going to vote to call witnesses. They're going to vote to dismiss summarily and likely have the support of "Republicans" like Mitt Romney and Susan Collins.
And just like that Mike Gallagher (today announced) he is retiring https://rollcall.com/2024/02/10/after-defying-gop-on-mayorkas-impeachment-gallagher-to-retire/
When do 39yr olds ever retire from Congress? You know there’s some kind of reason that he wants to keep suppressed.

Probably pics of him at the DC orgies that Madison Cawthorn was talking about?
No doubt.
He might be safer if he leaves the country.
And then walk back as a Cuban illegal...
McClintock needs to announce his retirement also! As does Ken Buck.
