Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat

Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Was looking for cheap Chinese food tonight and struggled to find it.
Really, a lost art. Something about comfortable, no frills Chinese. And not Panda Express, that is not even food. I mean, that greasy, filing, local stuff.
Who else here loves it?
Our Chinese restaurant owners got a great price on their place last year because of good location and retired. No more Chinese takeout for us either.
No regrets at all for moving out of NYC in 1977. But I have to admit, it was the best place for cheap and good Chinese food. There are restaurants in the small towns up here in the wilds of Vermont, but the customers are few and I don't trust the food as much, it certainly isn't fresh, the delivery truck brings large cans of pre made american chinese, frozen blocks of meat, all coming from Boston and NYC. I try to replicate some of it in my own kitchen, but I sure do miss it.
I don’t care for anything at Panda Express except the Beijing Beef. Absolutely wonderful.
I found this commercial kitchen near me which is rented out by this woman who makes traditional Chinese fair but with high quality ingredients. It’s much better than processed crap like Panda AND she gives you those ridiculous portions. I ordered crab Rangoon and some Szechuan chicken and it lasted me four meals
I spent my formative years in Singapore and Hong Kong, wonderful food, washed down with Tiger or San Miguel beer. Especially Singapore street hawker food.
My son goes to Thailand. He said the street food there is second to none- and cheap! They have 7/11s there but they sell much healthier food. You can eat all day for well under $10. He said people are so kind there. There are so many that everyone is courteous to each other, like Japan.
Thailand is great the money conversion is about 35 to 1 so you can eat for about 3 days on 10 bucks lol.....moving to Koh Samui soon...:)
My son is moving this year! Everything is sooooo cheap. Round trip flights around that part of the world for well under $200. The food, though, and the MMA events are what he talks so much about. Maybe you guys will run into each other. He’ll stick out like a sore thumb 😄. He’s a big man. He also mentioned all of the beautiful cats there. The Thai people see them as a sign of good luck or prosperity, I can’t remember which. They’re free roaming and the people feed them and love them. It’s so cool!
