As someone that's been on the internet since about 1995, all of what he says makes total sense.
And I like his comment about them "not being ready for the internet". Essentially saying that they created a monster that they could not control (a la, Frankenstein).
I've always said one of the biggest mistakes that they made was attacking sub cultures (like gaming, comics) because it woke A LOT of people up to what was going on. All I was literally doing back in 2014 was playing video games, then I was pulled into this global information conflict. If they were smart, they would have left us alone.
I was on the internet way before normal people, early 90's, due to my career. Yes, it does all make sense! I remember when the "world wide web" first began, and the way we could all interconnect. Hidden information began to be freely accessible and passed around so quickly. THEY knew they were in danger. They were not prepared for how fast it all happened.
I was actually in an ad hoc group in mid β90s discussing the future impact of the internet. One of my inputs was the undoing of the information control system. Information is power. Both will make a radical change.
This is why they were triggered by Gamergate so badly that they still write articles.
Trying to social ostracize the one community that is already considered basement dwelling virgins was bound to fail, plus it's a goal oriented community with a greater share of autists.
Huge strategic blunder.
Always remember, the NFL folded like lawn chairs, gamers boycotted and started contacting advertisers
