Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I'm so frustrated by the pro Tik Tok ban bill folks. Don't bills merit a discussion of the long term implications before we unilaterally give more power to the president and DC court of appeals?
It all seems like a distraction from the Hur report. Conservatives are so easily reactionary rather than driving the conversation.
I hate what Tiktok has done to our culture and young people but this proposed ban feels so unprincipled and the implications are far reaching. I lost a lot of respect for Raheem who's resorted to labelling people pro CCP if they don't like the bill. He's stretching back to 2015 campaign contributions just to try to make a point.
Tiktok has not eroded culture though. From an anthropologist viewpoint, it is amazing to have actual reference to human behavior. All the silly, stupid, mundane, sexy, annoying, insightful, etc things humans do. Tiktok has just put a lens on the truth of humanity. Retards, thots, and npcs have always existed..you just didn't know them unless they lived next door.
And I think that is WHY people get addicted. Because before social media, you couldn't see everyone's cute pets, felt less stupid realizing just how stupid your peers are, that there are normal people out there 100x more attractive than celebrities, what it looks like when a hydraulic press crushes neon colored candy, or if goats will eat a bushel of pomegranates
Hard disagree (I did not downvote you). Social media in general had eroded culture and kept people to more extreme social bubbles rather than talking with each other reasonably in person.
Tiktok and other short video content has lowered people's attention span, critical thinking skills (they just on to the next video), and lowered the propensity to create in favor of consuming endless content. When I watch endless scrolling content without choice I literally feel dumber watching it.
People are largely exposed to and recommended degenerate and leftist talking points as well.
I am not downvoting you either, but to be honest, if consuming this sort of content does not prompt in depth conversations then you need to put your Q hat on when watching. My wife and i have these conversations prompted by reels very often. Sure, the puppy videos are not leading to serious discussions but there are so many other reels that do get our minds working
The other thing is..these apps are how people are getting redpilled. Amala Ekpulnobi got redpilled by youtube videos and is now a strong conservative voice creating her own content. Normie apolitical youth scroll their animal cutes and sexy girls dancing then a random Bret Cooper or Benny Johnson comes on and they are never the same.
Not to mention, the cabal is having a hard time trying to compete with these videos. Movies, TV, sports, etc are all struggling because there are so many people who would rather watch endless reels or a twitch streamer
I generally don't watch them to be fair but the people I know who do often complain about the degeneracy and still watch them anyway.
But it's good to hear that some people respond positively.
Manufacture a fear - legislate the fear away - obtain more control of the people.
Kinda like a digital 9/11 and Patriot Act.
But here is what I think is actually going on. Just my theory.
