Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, 33, has been accused of sexually abusing at least three minors between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
On Monday, police arrested a Maryland teacher on child sex abuse charges. Authorities revealed that the teacher is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador and had been previously deported.
Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, 33, has been accused of sexually abusing at least three minors between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. Police said the abuse occurred between 2016 and 2018 at the Elim Gaithersburg Church he had been teaching at in Maryland.
Lopez has been charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree sex offense, and third-degree sex offense, according to WUSA9.
Court documents state that Lopez inappropriately touched his students when their eyes were closed for prayer and when they were watching movies. He allegedly admitted to his pastor that he had touched a girl inappropriately and that the issue had been "dealt with internally."
Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Lopez is an illegal immigrant who had been previously deported in 2015.
Didn't anyone do a background search before they hired an illegal as a teacher. My gosh, this is ludicrous.
Seems he was probably an unpaid Sunday School teacher if you read the article.
I could care less if he was "unpaid" or if he was a "Sunday School teacher", he should have been background checked and he should never have been put in front of children especially. Any volunteer job I have ever had has always done some kind of a background check.
Yes, we do background checks on anyone who wants to join children's ministry.

Wow, the wording of this is even creepy...sounds like his “inappropriate touching of the girl” resulted in either “rape” of the girl, or him contemplating with glee his action. Maybe the church school even congratulated him.
Guess the school didn’t perform a background check. Tell me there aren’t at least 20 U.S. citizens who could have filled that job!
