Looks like he went back as an afterthought and added 'and I' after 'team' and never bothered to proofread. I do that when I am writing in anger. Probably the situation here.

Happens to me sometimes. I'll make changes, but then not notice a change I needed to make to make the first change work. It ends up making me look like I am drunk typing.
