That don't make sense to me. The owner of property does not give value to city property tax authority.
Where I live I pay taxes for my home and my vehicles every yr. They are the ones that tell me how much it's worth, not me
Tax authorities use information given by property owner to determine tax value.
I'm not a tax attorney or an expert on taxes by any stretch of the imagination, but from my understanding, large real estate developers and those that own commercial property is not the same as a single family house owned by the occupants.
Here's an article I found after a quick search that lays out the issue in fairly plain English.
The Sandlers helped found and are among the largest benefactors of.... the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank; ProPublica, an investigative reporting newsroom.... In addition, the Sandlers or their foundation support organizations involved in medical research, the environment, human rights, and civil liberties.

Does that invalidate all the information given in articles published by them?
I'm not saying to just automatically trust them, by any means.
But neither should people simply ignore or disbelieve information found there simply because they don't personally like them.
The information given in that article I linked got Trumpβs tax assessments and loan information from the FOIA, and have provided them there for people to see for themselves.
Everything in that article can be verified by doing some digging yourself.
It's the lazy mind that ignores facts because they don't like the source they find it in.
It's especially hypocritical when people who do this turn around and share articles from the exact same sources whenever it suits their arguments. Something I see done here frequently, which is very disappointing.
I'm not promoting propublica. It was an article explaining NY's claims of tax fraud in regards to President Trump and his properties.
It also gave links to tax assessment papers from Trump's companies, along with loan applications for the same properties. That's exactly what started the entire trial.
You don't have to like or agree with the founder of a company to gain understanding of something going on they're reporting on.
Do you have an approved list of sources for what you will accept information from?
Or, and here's a crazy thought, people can look up how commercial properties in NY are assessed for tax purposes for themselves.
Weird that very few people on an elite research board seem to have the initiative or ability to do such basic searches themselves. π€·ββοΈ
