I recall seeing something quite a while back. I should have book-marked it. So many non-profits are good, but how can we be so sure anymore?

In my opinion, at this point, NGO = 3 letter agency = BAD, with a capital B!
Nothing but money launderers for our government. They receive Federal Tax Dollars (our tax $), and a small portion of those tax dollars are then “gifted” back to our communities for different projects. No thanks. Stop the grants, stop the grift!
I'll start:
American Red Cross
Catholic Community Services
RCM
There was a post here a few months ago about maps being handed out by the Red Cross. Either that post or a linked article listed four organizations that are aiding in human trafficking at the southern border. The top two on my list above are two of the four mentioned in the post or article.
Generally there will be a company register, kept by the government, where one can view their books and company structures - at least that's how it is supposed to work. What they do admit to, can be illuminating, in any case. Even a simple budget analysis can reveal glaring holes, for example. (I recently found a million-dollar hole that was left unexplained, because well, it was a council-controlled organization spending ratepayer funds - nothing to see here).
Board member lists can be fun, with the aid of Linkedin. After a while, one will start seeing a pattern of unqualified, brown-nosing, money-grubbing little henchman, telling people what to do.
When you are done with that list, try registered charities, or perhaps branch out from NGOs into Public Private Partnerships. My point is that there are different names for these organizations and as far as I am concerned thay are all corrupt.
help me with a link that you use, please as far as the government register you mentioned
I don't know where you are on the globe, but for the USA there is no registration at the national level. To look up registration information of a U.S. company, you need to search the database of the state or states where it is registered. So, perhaps you can start by looking at the NGO, and where its headquarters are, and that might give an indication as to what state they are registered in. I say might, because NGOs PPPs and registered charities often behave like shell companies, covering their tracks, for dodgy purposes.
In New Zealand there is a nationwide one, but our nation is no bigger than an average US state. LOL https://companies-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz/
Thanks. The nagging won't leave me alone. A friend of mine is a missionary to Bolivia. She is a soft-spoken, kind-hearted person and would never hurt a child. She is a part of Vision Baptist Missions. My research is very concerning to me and our church gives a lot of $ to them.
So that sounds like a registered charity.
