I think temporary powers is fine after an attack...but not if they can extend it, and not if it is an undefined length of time, and it should only apply within a certain distance of the attack.
A mob of 2000 angry locals showed up to the church right after it happened. They wouldn't let medics leave with the attacker. They had to barricade themselves inside for hours while cops dispersed the crowd.
Thats one reason the temp powers were granted. They are worried about retaliation attacks etc.

"10 days to stop the spread" has entered the chat.
We will see.
"but not if they can extend it, and not if it is an undefined length of time, and it should only apply within a certain distance of the attack."
My post already precludes a 2 more weeks situation.
At this stage I actually kind of agree with you.

But It being a flase flag for other nefarious reasons is a possibility. The knife attack that happened 2 days before in Bondi (sounds like possible MkUltra job. Attacker being described as: "'His eyes were like empty eyes... he wasn't there") is already being used to discuss facial recognition systems being installed in public spaces, and tougher knife laws.
Slippery slopes n all
Oh no, I agree. The slope is slippery, but by limiting the scope it can achieve what is needed.
Which of course remains the problem; government hates limiting its scope, and who keeps them to it to begin with?
I understand concerns against it too. I don't know that there is a perfect solution.
Nope.
So you don't believe they should be able to put a perimeter around the site of the attack and ensure that people aren't trying to finish the job?
Well, first of all thatβs not what you said WTF, and not what I responded to.
Second, when there is an investigation the crime scene is typically closed / roped off. SOP.
Lastly, put me down for always being against more power, temporary or not.
Hope that helps clarify fren.
