Way back in Nlovember 1966 "Stills" (I'm not sure if that is the Stills of Crosby, Stills and Nash, but I suspect that it is) wrote a song called "For What It's Worth" in a band called Buffalo Springfield. He was responding to a protest that had turned violent following the closing of the Pandora's Box nightclub on Sunset Strip. I don't know how to create a link to that song but if someone could post a link so that EVERYONE can hear Stills message, that would make this post complete. So help me out here Anons. I encourage every Anon who comes to this board today to take the time to play the song and listen to the lyrics because they could have been written while someone was observing the recent campus protests. I swear it is amazing that this is the song God wanted me to play this morning instead of my usual Christian music.
So let's keep a count of how many people actually respond when asked to do so. I'll be number one. Now who gets the unfortunate distinguishment of being #2?
If anyone knows a moderator, perhaps it should be pinned at the top like it was the first post of the day, all day, every day until we reach we at least ????? which will always reduce to the number 7.
The name Trump will always and forever vibrate to the number 7. The qualities of the number 7 is complete but not yet whole (the number 9 means whole - you have done it - you have won and that my friends is exactly where we are and in order to get to the number 9, we have to work a rather long and twisting path thru the number 8 which is infinity.
So let's see who all is paying attention. Post your "screen name" (whatever the fuck that is as I still don't understand the fucking difference between a username AND a screen name. Can anybody tell me what the fuck a "screen name is".
And with that I leave the challenge open. Unless the mods think that will give the demoncraps an idea of how many of us there are and don't want to release that information, but I say THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE FUCKING BEEN WAITING FOR - IT IS NOW OR FUCKING NEVER.
Just like Zappa, Jim Morrison and even Charles Manson, Stephen Stills and Neil Young came out of Laurel Canyon. The whole Hippie movement just like the Hip Hop culture was implemented by the Intelligence community to disrupt American society.
Inside The LC: The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation: Part I
“There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear”
I sometimes want to go back and decode MadMen's depiction of the Laurel Canyon scene. Megan wearing the Sharon Tate tee-shirt. I feel like there's a troll in it somehow but can't put my finger on it. Just rewatched Rosemary's Baby. The whole Roman Polanski connection to Tate and Laurel Canyon is its own rabbit hole. Vanity Fair guy wrote a book called Chaos, which begs a lot of questions about the CIA and Manson and Laurel Canyon. I feel like a person could dedicate a professional lifetime into trying to figure the whole thing out.
I agree. in my opinion there's a lot still left there to unpack. There are so many side tunnels in that rabbit hole a man could spend years following them.
I can't wait to do some research into this whole Laurel Canyon thing. It is so interesting that I've had a strange feeling about the whole "Helter Skelter" thing and I've had way too many nightmares about it over the years.
Must read material, either the online article Dogsoldier linked, or the book, "Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon" (both authored by David McGowan). The book has more detail but is a bit on the dry side.
Thanks seasonedcastiron. I will definitely get the book and looking forward to reading it.
This is soooooooo interesting to me. I can't wait to have some time to look into this Laurel Canyon thing. I find it just a little creepy that all the "famous" hippies I know about, almost all of them are associated with Laurel Canyon. Thanks for sharing and peaking my curiosity.
You could certainly have a college course on Laurel Canyon. One thing in common of all those musicians from laurel canyon is their high ranking military industrial complex parents. I fell for it, as I am an anti-war old hippie to this day. As a result, I raised children who likely would not be able to handle being at war like their grandfather did. Dare I say I raised 2 snowflakes? Maybe. It doesn't make me love them any less, but I may worry about them more. Only today looking back, can I see the psy-op part of it.
and then again...how many teens and young adults REBELLED against their parents...especially in the 60s.
I can't imagine any. I think we all rebelled in some fashion that we felt relatively safe doing without getting kicked out of the house; but you are right, the 60s changed everything. Those were the true hippies; everything else was just a copy IMO.
Agree. I too am an ole hippie lady. Hippies aren't what most people picture; kinda like being MAGA. Hippies just want to be left alone to live free. They don't make a big deal of what they are doing. As opposed to HINOs who wear all the right stuff, do all the right things and then they want the world to know that they are hippies, like it is a badge to wear.
I don't think you raised two snowflakes. They are out checking out their boundaries and when they see the horror on the other side of the fence, they will be home where they always felt safe. So let them spread their wings and always be there for them to come home to. Stop beating yourself up; you dun good and the end you never once said "I think I'm going to screw up parenting and thus screw up my children." I'm sure you always did your best, as most parents do.
Great Song. Alvin Lee of Ten Years After - I'd love to change the world on the Space in Time album is so today also: first line - "everywhere is freaks and hairies - dykes and fairies - tell me where is sanity" This album - take a listen.

Thank you - that was very kind of you to include a link!
You are third in line of links I will be taking as soon as I finish listening to the album. Thanks so much for sharing.
It's almost freaky how it is mirror the late 60s. Seems like we have been there and done that.
I agree completely. They were turbulent times and full of sex, drugs and rock n roll - but not hateful to any groups except cops/military it took many years to overcome that on both sides.
What amazes me is how many of my (then) good friends who questioned everything the government said or did are now total sheep and believe the US government would not act against their own citizens. Sometimes I think I am just too old to be awake - very few people I know my age are.
IMO the 60s woke us up as a nation. The rebels of that day were the first real "anti-government" protesters. And you are correct, they were nonviolent. I don't remember many protests that were violent and the ones that were are written in the history books.
Why do you think your "good friends" went belly up? I was so fortunate to have the ultimate hippie as a BIL. He totally freaked my father out but my father's curiosity got the better of him and he really took the time to get to know my BIL and they developed a really close relationship. I'm like that; I enjoy just sharing what we know nonviolently.

I don't remember that part about Taylor Swift in the lyrics. Har har har.
LOL! Yes, I hadn't noticed that my copy/paste picked up that aside.
Say it ain't so!!!
Thanks for the lyrics Always liked that song. I remember Buffalo Springfield.
All of us over 60s remember Buffalo Springfield, or should.
I've got volumes of poetry that I put in a box and stuck in the back of the closet because soooooo many friends, family and strangers criticized the fact that I prefer rhyming lyrics (and I've gotten pretty good at it over the years). It is very difficult to have both rhyme and rhythm in a poem but that is what I strive for. I have a small (3 x 5) "Rhyming Dictionary" that I quite literally carry with me as often as I can and certainly when I know I'm going to be writing poetry because it has "More than 30,000 Words, Glossary of Poetic Terms and Easy to Use."
Reading these lyrics just proves that rhyming lyrics can be great lyrics. Now I'm going to have to clean out that closet and find that dusty ole box of poetry.
Do you remember this song and performance on Day 1 of the DNC convention?
