Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
My oldest boy is about to turn 18, is pretty awake and has been working hard to improve his health. He lost 30 lbs since last summer, plays 3 school sports and just committed to the honors program (with a large scholarship) at a college he was really interested in. He's also been recruited by their Rugby team to play for them this fall.
He scans the label on everything he eats and avoids garbage food like the plague. If all his friends go to McDonald's, he'll only drink their water.
He's an anxious guy and has a bad case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). He tends to get depressed when the work starts piling up as he becomes overwhelmed.
I bought a 500mg bottle of Reishi Mushroom extract. I'm not an anxious guy, so I didn't see much change as I wanted to test the pills myself for a couple weeks. I've since given them to him and he usually pops one in the morning before heading off to the most stressful and uncomfortable environment he knows...school. He says the mushroom pills have been helping him relax and get through school, so I'll probably order some more.
The next problem he wants to attack is his inability to get up in the morning and get himself off to school. He's definitely not a morning person and could sleep 10 hours a day if we let him.
He wants to try Sea Moss as he's read that it helps the body detoxify. Nobody in this house got the covid shots, but our kids did follow the regular pediatric schedule of poisons before we woke up to the medical tyranny in 2020. I assume these shots contribute to his anxiety and need for a lot of sleep. Fortunately, my other two boys don't have this same problem (at least not yet).
TLDR: Has anyone tried Sea Moss and noticed any improvements or benefits to what was ailing them?
I bought some reishi mushroom from iHerb, but once I found out that it lowers testosterone, I just use it for its immune properties when I feel like I might be coming down with something. I too have never heard of sea moss.
I would only be concerned with how easily he is playing into the cycle
Feeling forced into "Being a morning person", maximizing "productivity" and using "fitness" metrics as a meaure of value are all very much in the realm of corporate neoliberalism when it gets down to it and that is precisely what this movement is designed to disarm
I would look into viewing fitness functionally for what he wants to do, such as rugby, and designing a training routine around it. Building funcional strength and developing cardio for his sport as the goals, not specitically lbs lost. He is growing and hormones are at an all time high so being on a deficit and worrying about losing is silly when THIS is the time to build solid muscle and keep bone mass dense. Fat can be handled later and honestly for contact sports, it is better to have some fat and protect those organs.
Also, Long term it is not good to be a slave to "nutrition" and I would say the psychological benefits of a communal meal with friends far outweigh the "effects" of a small fry or some nuggets. Maybe give him some cash so he can invite his friends to a good local Chinese or Japanese place where they can eat some good meats and rice.
The left ultimately wants to steal everyone's joy, we have to create a culture of positivity and the essence of "cozy"
Thank you. I appreciate your perspective.
He is really excited to utilize the college gym as it overlooks the campus athletic fields and he's very pleased with the variety of the cafeteria food. He's almost 6 foot and now weighs ~195 with a pretty average layer of "protective" fat that might be helpful as you suggested.
I just hope he can settle into a routine at college and get to bed early enough so he's not showing up late to his first class like he often is now in high school.
He's an adventurous eater as he'll try almost anything. That should help with bonding with new friends in college, especially if the whole rugby team collectively tries to stay fit and keep everyone accountable.
He sees the nationwide agenda of the DoE and will be relieved when he graduates HS in a couple weeks. He really needs a fresh start with like-minded individuals.
I know you are very proud of your son. Sounds like he’s a smart determined person. That attitude will get him far in life. I’m not that familiar with sea moss. It’s one of the hottest natural products on the market right now. Do your research on it because anything that’s very popular has the potential to attract many scammers. I see it a lot on instagram and Etsy. I do buy tinctures from small businesses that most likely make them in their homes. I do extensive research before buying and ask question's directly to the shop owner before buying. I don’t know anything about sea moss but I see a lot of people selling liquid sea moss. Looks like a green liquid. Adding water to anything that’s not consumed quickly has the potential to grow bacteria that you can’t see. I would seek out reputable supplement companies for the sea moss.
II believe Spirulina is a natural detox. I have taken it occasionally. It has multiple benefits. There’s a green & blue. It also comes from the ocean. That’s one reason I say be careful with the brand of sea moss as well as Spirulina because some areas of the ocean are not as safe as others. I linked below the brand I trust. It’s been a few years since I bought it so research the company.

There’s many herbs that are detoxifying and can be taken as tea, tinctures or supplements. In most cases taking the liquid herb tincture is most effective. I believe that also depends on the reason for taking the herb. I keep many different herbal teas and tinctures on hand in case of sickness.
Thank you very much. I'm saving this info and will look into it with him.
Lately he's been adding pure lemon, ginger and cumin to his daily water bottle.
Unfortunately he was late for school again today. 😞 🤷♂️
The reason why he sleeps a lot and has a hard time waking up could be because he's still growing, or sugar high and low, or his diet involves not eating for a long period of time and then eat and the body is preserving energy by making him sleep more..
I've been on ketosis for 6 months and since then I've woken up right away every morning, no more dragging my butt if you know what I mean. I have lots of energy and much calmer now. Pretty much got rid of my anxiety without any pills. I also never took any medications whatsoever..only ivermectin once in awhile.
Thank you.
Are you fasting to initiate ketosis, or is it a high protein diet that gets the body to do that?
I fasted 17 hours to kickstart the ketosis and then started just eating meat, eggs, bacon, fish, yeah basically protein diet. I suggest getting the urine strip keto test on amazon for $10 to test if you're in ketosis, and then to maintain it, as long as you can limit to 50 grams of sugar/carbs, you should stay in ketosis.
50 grams of carbs/sugar is like 2 spoons of rice or this is the one from Google:
Bread: Around 2 to 3 slices of white or whole wheat bread typically contain around 50g of carbohydrates. Oats: Approximately 50g of dry oats (about 1/2 cup) provides around 50g of carbohydrates. Fruits: Consuming around 2 medium-sized bananas or 3 medium-sized apples can give you close to 50g of carbohydrates.
This is one of my fav channels explaining the keto-carnivore diet and how many lives have been saved and pills and medical conditions cured. There are many others.. just gotta watch all the videos and then try and see what works for you.

This is great info. Thank you very much.
I'll research and share with him. Maybe I'll start him on Ivermectin first in case he has any hungry parasites trying to take over his gut.
God Bless and good luck of your Keto journey!
I’ve been worn out. Took a pencil eraser size dose of Ivermectin. Depression and tiredness much improved. I am also not fighting myself to get outta bed.
This pony is feeling much better after her horsey juice.
Edit. Dose once in AM and once in PM each day. Sorry if l misled anyone. I am in day 3.
Oh wow I need a boat load if it does that. I wake up tired. Glad it’s working for you.
Thank you. I'm the only person (out of 5) in this house that has taken IVM and FenBen.
I had a Herxheimer reaction the second time I took IVM. I attribute it to having traveled the world for work and eating a lot of weird things.
I'll ask my son if he's willing to try it for a few days. As a precaution, maybe I'll wait until he is done with high school.
