Seed oils are not needed at all. They are an industrial product which used to be used to lubricate machines. Crisco, which is crystalized cotton seed oil became the replacement for tallow and lard. Proctor and Gamble awarded the American Heart Association a million plus dollars in the early 60's, and the message went out that saturated fat from animals plus cholesterol caused heart disease. P&G made lots of money selling Crisco (search for Ancel Keys for the beginning of the big lie).
