Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
PS caught a ban, a day or two, then obviously had issue with it so a mod then banned him for 7 days. (Periodically I look through the logs and happened to notice this). I have no idea what was communicated between PS and the mod(s), but the banning mod seemed very even-tempered in the one log entry I saw. I'm guessing the frustration of not being able to have your grievance dealt with "on even footing", so to speak, prompted PS to sever his participation here. He's not the first I've seen walk away for this reason and I suspect he won't be the last. I'm pretty sure this happened within the last week. I doubt very much he was approached-harassed by a fed. PS had very strong opinions and could be combative at times, but IMHO he's a true fighter, true patriot. I'm sure he'll survive and thrive during the coming storms and the (hopefully much better) times afterwards.
I dunno, for temp bans I think it's not so good to delete your account even if you are mad or don't agree with the reasons given. Sometimes just gotta suck it up, grin and bear it.
I also disagreed with PepeSee pretty frequently, but also agreed too. That's just life, same with other posters and me.
I am sad to see any of these go.
I see 😞 well I hope they will make a return one day! I love the strong opinion types! Leaves no room for wishy washy bullshit!
When I first joined here in 2020 (different username), I thought the environment was considerably more combative than it is now, but I enjoy being challenged and, while the attack-mode anons could be caustic (and several were unreasonable shills and/or childish bots), they also serve to toughen us all up. Let's face it, the beastly minions we anons are facing (the marxists, communists, whatever we want to call them) are NOT nice, kind, respectful people. This is not a game. Those who don't have a thick skin need to develop it. We have many veterans here and probably current military as well and these folks are warriors who don't back down. They've faced a lot harder circumstances than anons they disagree with on a research board.
Having a wide range of personalities here, from "wishy washy", as you say, to warrior is a good thing, IMHO. I can disagree strongly with someone on a matter and still respect their opinion. While I'm not happy about some of what I see occurring on this board, there's a lot more going on here than meme-making, research and current news analysis.
It would behoove everyone here to take a deep breath and try to deescalate tensions when faced with a heated exchange. We're in a pressure cooker just being aware of what's occurring in the world -- so imagine the strength of character and self control that those on the actual front lines have had to muster as they've faced down actual horrors that most of us here would hate to even have nightmares about. There will be flare-ups amongst anons, that's inevitable. Learn to choose your battles and when to let things slide and move on.
I, too, would like to see PepeSee and others who have left return as their contributions were appreciated and the more good people we have on board, the better. We're all trying to find our way during incredibly difficult circumstances so whatever their decisions I wish them the best and thank them for all the time and efforts they put into GAW while here.
Perfectly said 💯
Much agreed.
