Russian officials say at least five killed after air systems intercepted projectile above a busy holiday resortJames Kilner 23 June 2024 • 5:09pm Shrapnel from an intercepted US-made missile fired by Ukraine hit a beach packed with sunbathing tourists in occupied Crimea on Sunday.
Russian officials said at least five people, including three children, had died of shrapnel wounds – and they expected the death toll to rise. A video shot by a tourist on the beach shows a missile coming into view above the nearby city of Sevastopol and then exploding. Shrapnel crashes into the sand in a succession of thuds and bangs, and tourists scream and run. “Run!” one of the tourists shouts.
Russia’s ministry of defence said its air-defence systems had intercepted one of five US-made ATACMS long-range artillery rockets fired by Ukraine at Crimea. It blamed the US for the attack and said that the intercepted missile had been armed with a cluster munition warhead that exploded over the beach.
“Responsibility for the deliberate missile attack on civilians in Sevastopol lies primarily with Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, as well as the Kyiv regime,” it said. “Such actions will not go unanswered.”

Let's be clear about the sequence of events:

Ukraine ordered an attack on a military target in Sevastopol, a completely legitimate zone within the scope of this war
US troops embedded in Ukraine determined the firing solution, loaded the coordinates into the computer, authorized, and launched the attack
Russian radars identified the missile and integrated air defenses activated, launching a missile to intercept
The interception occurred over the resort with the unfortunate consequences to civilians below when shrapnel from both missiles rained down upon them

No one "caused" this. No one targeted civilians here. Civilians were caught in the crossfire of two armies which were trying hit legitimate military targets according to the usual rules.

Don't scream "evil" or other nonsense like that. That's what Leftists do because they're emotional animals who are either incapable or unwilling to engage in logic and reasoning. Nothing here was "evil" other than the idiot leader of Ukraine and his backers who refuse to surrender a war which is clearly lost and seek terms for cease fire. It is not incumbent on the winning side to stop, only to offer fair terms, which Putin has.
