Microsoft is nothing more than another damned spy tool. They are so deeply embedded in our countries infrastructure they should just be taken over once a new government is established.
We need the 4th Amendment reaffirmed, and ALL these spying POS shut down permanently.
I am a Microsoft Software Engineer.
The key to stopping this is the legal system in my view.
From their standpoint... All the data collection becomes useless if they cannot use it legally against us.
So if they have the legal rights to shut down our bank accounts due to what we say. That's crossing the line.
If they use my information to advertise to me things that I actually care about. I don't have a problem with "targeted ads" that make sense.
I understand your point of view though.
The 4th Amendment gave the right to privacy in all things to the people. Not to some SOB wanting to sell me something. They have zero right to collect any thing that I don't give them express right to gather.
This isn't about what they use it for. It is about my right for them not to gather it.
I see your point.
Data collection is pretty broad in scope.
For example:
When I look at the webpage https://greatawakening.win/messages?type=unread
The querysting added to the link of "messages?type=unread" is a form of data collection.
This data collection is used to help the site owners determine what to display to you.
To have any form of dynamic behavior on the internet. Some form of data collection has to happen.
I agree that all data should be PERMISSION based that allows you to opt out of something.
When you click like on Facebook / Twitter. In order to show you information that you care about. Twitter has to collect data to determine that.
There just isn't a way around it when it comes to producing dynamic experiences.
If you read the data collection policy of this site, it doesn’t look bad at all.
Basically they log IPs at last login in case there’s a legal issue, and that’s about it.

Would be nice if a lot more sites were like that.
The data to make a dynamics experience on webpages does not have to be archived, and associated directly to you. It can be strictly tied to when the profile logs into their programs. The data I am concerned about it what is collected, stored, and mined to build a profile of who you are, where you are, and who your associations are.
