Mayor Johnson nixes plan to remove George Washington statue outside his City Hall office
The since-rescinded decision to remove the statue had nothing to do with the former president's ownership of slaves, Mayor Brandon Johnson's communications director said.
The revolution always eats its own children.
A sad point in Western Civ's history was America's founding Fathers involvement in the French Revolution against their Ally, the French Catholic Monarchy. To their dishonor, They double crossed the French & kicked off the revolution through organs of Masonic Lodges. That same revolutionary spirit is now consuming their legacy.
Uh, gross. I understand though. Look at Mao. It's the same.
If they don't want it, I'll take it. That'd look awesome in my garden! Kek!
LOL. Many would like it. Historical artifacts.
God tells us "Thou shall not bow down to graven images".
We should not worship statues that humans put up.
Who the hell worships this statue?
This
Not sure.
My point is that we shouldn't care if they keep or remove a statue. It doesn't mean anything.
Disagree entirely, attributing implicit worship because of the existence of a statue is obtuse. That is a piece of commemerative history. I can't say it doesn't happen, but I have never heard of anyone worshiping a statue of one of the founding fathers.
Yes.. but it is assuming those who have a statue. Is somehow better than others.
The founding fathers belong in books. Put their photo in a book.
Which communicates in the context of their importance.
This is the line of thinking that has allowed the removal of so much of our culture and past.
And whether you like it or not, someone like Washington was more important than others at the time but not "better" than anyone else as you put it.
God gave us the 10 commandments. Those are foundational laws.
When you say CULTURE!
You are talking about POP CULTURE like Art, Music, Dance, Food, etc.
Those things aren't stable. Those things will always follow TRENDS that come and go.
New trends and styles will clean out outdated pop culture like rt, Music, Dance, Food, etc.
Exactly
No one is worshipping this statue. It is to honor our past.
God tells us not to do this.
So I don't care about statues.
So, a statue of Jesus would be bad as well?
God tells us not to build statutes for the purpose of worshiping it. He doesn't say don't build statutes.
Exodus 20 4-5 Leviticus 26 1
Both say don't do it with the intention of worshiping it.
It's a slippery slope of idolatry.
Once you put up a statue of George Washington. Down the road someone will put up a statue of Baal.
I am not talking about getting on your hands and knees and bowing down to George Washington.
I am saying that a statue is a form of idolatry.
if it nots. Than that would mean the statue was put up for nothing.
