Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
How do you eat your grits? if you eat grits...
I am asking here because reddit and google are astroturfed with savory only (cheese, bacon, shrimp, etc)
My wife LOVES grits but she eats them with butter and a little bit of sugar. I tried them, honestly it makes them as comforting as oatmeal to me that way.
Butter, milk, brown sugar
on a good day. I might put raisins and walnuts.
I like my grits with butter and runny yolk eggs on top. In college, we used to hang out at The Waffle House, and I would order grits chunked, diced, smothered." Here's an article definitely those, plus other famous toppings. https://www.southernliving.com/waffle-house-grits-secret-8382491
Definitely with sugar and cream!
I normally love shrimp and grits with cheese, bacon, garlic, and green onion, but recently my husband convinced me to eat it with honey and butter. Not bad... not bad at all.
that sounds good:) what kind of shrimp do you use? I'm in the upper Midwest, not sure if I even know what proper shrimp tastes like🤔
I usually buy mine from H-E-B, and their brand is usually pretty good. It's wild caught large shrimp already deveined but shell on and then I take it home and remove the shell myself just because it is cheaper that way, then I just saute it with garlic and butter and lemon juice for about 3 minutes on each side then throw it on top of my cheesy, bacon-y, green onion-y grits ... now I'm hungry LOL.
thanks for the details! have never tried grits before, will have to buy some. and have also heard good things about other H-E-B foods; cheese, pasta, etc.
thought for sure it was a bigger chain, but it's only in Texas...looks like our reasons for a Texas road-trip are adding up 🐸
