Especially with the trains cut off.
I once made the mistake of driving through central Paris, itβs not for the feint hearted. My companion at the time told me βdriving is like warβ.
Sounded sexy in French.
For real... only slightly less combative than driving around Rome, Italy πππ
I saw European Vacation so I know, Russ...πππ
Even worse for an Irish guy, you all drive on the wrong side of the road.
I had to think there for a second... the transition from North to South if you had to switch sides...but no, just kmh to mph π
Want to hear something interesting? The first time I went there, we started out in Dublin, then started going south towards Cork, then hooked up to dingle and finally rendezvoused with family near Belfast.
I could literally FEEL the tension as soon as the stone walls in the south faded away and the white picket fences started to appear...There must be something in my DNA or ancestral memory - because I could immediately feel the weight of "the troubles" in me bones... even without having experienced that first hand.
I enjoyed the South... except good luck getting a coffee before 10am...Creased!!! πππ
I've driven on driveways bigger than some of those roads... kinda freaky. Didn't know our rental - a Passat was a HUGE car...had to do multiple k turns to get up the parking garage ramp spiral to make the turn at each level...πππ
I live in Rural cork, nothing but songbirds and tractors. We live down whatβs known as a boreen, is just wider than a car.
Thereβs an amazing security to that, you can spot someone from the city by the look of terror on their face when they meet you on the road and you begin reversing at 39kph to the nearest overtaking spot you know.
When they do pass, you often get a happy look of respect.
I moved from Dublin 25 years ago, itβs a foreign invaded hell hole now.
Ive been to Ireland 3 times now to see family. Never been into Northern Ireland. Closest I got was Donegal where my family resides.
Sad thing is I probably will never go back. The wife and I had planned on spending an entire summer there upon retirement but its not happening until the current situation is resolved favorably. And not just the geopolitical situation. I wont fly anymore. I cant trust Boeing and I cant trust the vaxxed up pilots.
The wife and I had so many travel plans after retirement that have been swept away. She wanted to do Australia and NZ, my big wish list trips were Alaska and Kenya.
