In the 1964 case New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of the newspaper and established that the First Amendment protects freedom of speech and the press, including libelous statements about public officials. The decision established that public officials must prove that a defamatory statement was made with "actual malice" or "reckless disregard" of the truth in order to win a libel suit. "Actual malice" means the speaker knew the statement was false, or disregarded the truth. The ruling also established that the statement must be about the official individually, not about government policy in general.
The New York Times v. Sullivan decision is considered a landmark case that has protected the press and others who speak on public affairs, and arguably helped the civil rights movement. It has also been said to give people a chance to fight against those with more power.
She shouldn't take the money. She should have the. Criminally prosecuted in federal court. Once they go to prison she can civilly sue for damages. That arrest comes with a 100k fine personally for everyone involved.
I was born and raised in NM and now live in AZ. Water has played in ALL the political moves of both states since before the Louisiana Purchase and hasn't changed one bit. NM, CO, and UT all owe water to AZ and if this is not satisfied, they're barred from using any. Farms appeared out of nowhere. Indians are promised (still) unlimited irrigation use of the rivers. Mines leach the walls of open pits and tailings piles. Saudis are renting barron land for $25 per acre and are free to pump groundwater and grow alfalfa for their camels. Meanwhile, China buys all the govt. scrap iron here and ships it out. Don't let DEI cloud your vision. WATCH THE WATER!!!
I called and left a message with the mayor/city council's office asking when this meeting was and what issue the lady had requested to speak about. Wonder if they will return my call? Obviously they are hiding something if they won't respond to her information requests and had her arrested to avoid her speaking in public. It's unfortunate that it happened in front of her daughter, but also she set a good example for her daughter that we should all be setting.
Hope she crushes them and whiney bitch boy gets the can 🗑️

People should be outraged and demand the removal of that mayor from office.
Wow! And that Skip Hall sounds like a low IQ dingbat. Damn!
She will win a whole lot of taxpayer money when she sues the crap out of the city and the mayor.

Sue, sue, sue and do it in federal court as thatbis a clear violation of civil rights. Don't take a check from them make them go to prison.
It’s time to rise! These communists have got to be kicked out of government or any form of authority.
We did it to the king of Britain now we must do it here at home!
When in the course……you know the thing. C’mon man!
It is our DUTY!

Does anyone know what the issue was she was speaking about, or trying to speak about?
