Well, that would put half of Californian homeowners in jail! The white craftsmen and handymen have disappeared over the years and the Mexicans are the only help available.

107 is a pretty specific number, using both 1 and 7, while also proving a point
Notice the media took the bait. They are focused on his "mistake" of using a number over 100% of something that can't be more than 100%. To explain the problem with his statement they have to refer to the issue of migrants taking black people's jobs though. All while sneaking in a '17' for us!

I mean many times percentages over 100 are used to say, show how something doubled (200%) etc...
If you are talking about something finite like the number of jobs created then there can't be more than all or 100% of them. I think he is saying that black Americans not only didn't get any newly created jobs but lost jobs that they already had to illegal immigrants.
Yes, factor in the 7% decrease in overall jobs, and you get a 107% loss of jobs

A year or two ago, there was a new hire at my work who couldn’t speak ANY English.
We had to get a bilingual coworker to translate for him.
Oh boy do I have a crazy story about that, at a job I worked in the 90's.
What happened?
Long story short, The company hired a Mexican cartel member who set up shop in the plant. Several American employees were latter found, shot, set on fire or brutally beaten for their drug debts. We had rail cars come and go , in and out of the plant, one car came in loaded with cocaine, in baggies, hung from strings, tied to the roof inside the car. Management had us put the car on a tail track until a group of guys came and picked up the drugs. They were in on it ! The feds finally raided the place and hauled the Mexican out in cuffs and cleaned out the cartel from the local town. No managers were charged. Crazy shit but true.
