Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Do you think age discrimination is a real thing? The reason why I ask is because I'm beginning to wonder if it's a mistake to list work history that took place 40 years ago when applying for a job online. If you look closely, the questions are designed to expose your age in a very discreet manner. I'm also beginning to think it's a mistake to divulge my race as being white; otherwise, why would they have a separate question asking if you're hispanic or latino? Do they get some get some kind of government reimbursement for hiring hispanics or latinos? If not, why ask the question?
That is all part of liberal led one drop rule racism. Identity politics, divide and conquer.
Most jobs truly don't care about race. sure, fortune 500 companies meeting dei quotas but your local factory or office just want a good hand
It's really hard to know how to get around the hiring algorithms. I don't know the answer since I am out of the workforce for awhile, but if I was looking I would be using resources like Reddit and Askamanager and HR discussion forums to understand how it's done now so as to devise a strategy and tactics.
It's a mountain to climb for sure but the internet is an incomparable resource for understanding what you are up against.
that question is always a hard one for me because.. Am I technically hispanic? My grandfather was born in Mexico. (But he came to be an American the right way)
Am I "white"? I mean ask anyone looking at me and theyre gonna say yeah. lol so, sometimes I'm like this question doesn't have anything to do with the point im here but if i check off that hispanic circle will it make a difference wether i get the job?
Yes it’s real. As axe said, prob more of an issue for fortune 500. Various reasons, assuming DEI and lower cost of younger/greener hires included. If they’d discriminate on age consider if you’d even want to be hired by them.
