And all the other shippers are willing to give it to them, it's just Maersk is holding back, the company that makes billions. As an American and Capitalist, I don't hate people for what they make, if they are worth it and provide the service they claim to. Only a commie wants to limit someone's earnings.
I especially love when he starts talking about taxes. This will hurt for a bit, like ripping off a band aid, but we will be better off when it is all done and over with.
No, I'm not a longshoreman, I'm more referring to how the strike may impact the frail banks, finally setting off the domino effect of failure. Something's got to start it if our dollar is to collapse, leading to the eventual end of the FED!
AND THAT IS A VERY GRAND IDEA...This would be right up President Trump's ally due his way of "NEGOTIATING"!!!! Bring all the sides together in TRUMP TOWER (wouldn't that be a hoot) AND sit everybody down and say: "let's negotiate" so AMERICANS won't be harmed by this foolishness...what say you two?????
The ONLY thing the sides are going to do is blame each other in the news...it has happened before!!!!! Just an Historical Fact...
NOTE: if you want the reference is was sometime in the '80s I believe!!!!
Sounds like you know the Michael Jordans of longshoremen:
Ziprecruiter says a union longshoreman makes 28k-77k.
Salary.com says "The average Longshoreman salary in the United States is $63841 as of September 01, 2024, but the salary range typically falls between $59475 and $69063."
How the F do I know their base pay? Why would I know that?
My friend works there and has for 30 years...he makes $145k and probably works around 70-85 hours depending on when there's back to back ships to unload.
I'll let him know that a guy on the Internet got on assdoor and says you're full of shit... GTFOOH. You're cracking me up over here...
That's funny you went through the trouble to save that screenshot to try to humiliate me but you read it wrong the whole time. I didn't ask what is your associates' base pay. That could be determined with the information you gave. You said it's not salaried and I simply said 'that' (the national average) is 'their' (the average worker's) base pay. Then you melted down like a three year old. Take a breather and try to relax a bit. It's going to be okay.
How moronic can you get? I posted the yearly average pay of the job in question. You forgot to mention your guys get 2.5 times that with the kind of overtime you are talking about. Obviously the average is based on 40 hours.
Other than not wanting to limit the amount of money someone can earn in a free, capitalist society, I don't have a dog in this fight.
I'm just trying to warn people of what could happen after the strike happens. I don't see too many people talking about it, and we should be.
The banks are on the verge of failure as we speak, do you think this strike will be enough to push the rest of them over the edge into insolvency? Don't say you weren't warned!
What an opportunity for the DS to hurt America. So, all the pros & cons will be moot when the pain starts. I can hear some poo poo this event, but it's just one situation in a series of events to come in October & beyond. jmo
A port strike will surge costs in the broken Harris economy just when the extended holiday season is beginning.
“At the end of the day, when [a strike] carries on, it’s the consumer who pays,” said Rachel Michelin, president of the California Retailers Assn., which joined more than 200 trade groups in signing a letter to the White House urging Biden to bring the parties together to avert a potentially devastating hit to businesses and the economy.
ridiculous - they want a 70% raise
And all the other shippers are willing to give it to them, it's just Maersk is holding back, the company that makes billions. As an American and Capitalist, I don't hate people for what they make, if they are worth it and provide the service they claim to. Only a commie wants to limit someone's earnings.
I was lurking the UPS reddit when they wanted a raise.
This guy was disappointed at how small the raise they got was.
Someone replied to him saying, that’s how haggling works.
He replied back saying,
“If we wanted THIS much, we should have ASKED for WAY more (because when haggling/negotiating they’re going to meet somewhere in the middle)”
So maybe they’re asking for 70%; but they’re realistically hoping for ~50%.
They were already offered 50% raise over 6 yr. They turned it down. They really do want 80% raise when they already make over 6figures. Its greed
Oh.
Thanks for the clarification :)

They're freakin HIGH on something...
FYI - I know longshoremen that make $145k right now...
These peckerheads want $300k+. Piss off!!!

They don't make "salary", they're hourly...Busy port they work a lot of overtime....so much for muh snopes. 😐
But that is their base pay. Snopes?
Salary.com again:
"As of Sep 16, 2024, the average hourly pay for a Longshoreman in Michigan is $15.40 an hour."
Whoah big time! If they are working that much overtime I think they deserve at least what your friends make.

I didn't ask you that. You seem to be having a little spazz-out there. Don't reply to me again.
You most certainly did ask me EXACTLY THAT.
WHAT ARE YOU ON RIGHT NOW???
Receipt
Fuck that. This isn't Reddit.
You posted bullshit off the Internet vs 1st hand account of what someone doing this work actually makes ... At a REAL coastal port I might add.
Then you quote a longshoremen's base pay from Michigan... You got off of jerkoff salary.com
What a gaping ahole. Go back to Reddit.

So this is why Biden/Harris let in millions of military aged illegals.
