I never understood why anyone found him to be charismatic.
Because the MSM told them to.
A lot of the voters who actually gave him the win (if they did, presumably might have been due to cheating too) probably didn't, but most likely went with the idea that he could not be any worse than most of the other presidents you have had and hey, black, so why not, let's prove we are not racists, and make some history. It all sounded kind of nice, after all.
He was mostly a blank slate as far as the greater part of your voters were concerned, wasn't he? Had not been in MSM so much people could have build any definite image of him before his candidacy, the way they had of Hillary when she ran against Trump, so it was easier to paint him as either good or at least mostly harmless?
Most people are suckers for a big cheesy grin
He was, "The Great Black Hope".
A few of the sources and reasons for his popularity are:
The MSM constantly fawned over him because they were told to and, after a time, came to believe their own propaganda that he actually WAS all that they said he was,. . ., and more,
Blacks and other minorities loved him - and, sadly, FAR too many still do - because he, figuratively, made it out of the slave shacks and into, "the Big House" as its "Massa".
Liberal whites and other social justice warriors loved him because he had a big smile, a polished persona and focused on their favorite divisive topics that fuel and reinforce their middle-class white-guilt like social justice, financial inequality, homosexuality and racism with a silvery tongue.that made his radical ideas sound like music to their ears.
Alphabet people likely recognized him as "one of their own" advocating for them and their causes while "pulling on e over on the publuc" by living "in the closet" "out in the open".
And, the uniparty loved him because they knew he was "one of theirs" and was accelerating progress made on their agenda.
He was none of those things, well, maybe the "in the closet" out in the open part. But he was truly a Manchurian candidate president. He is evil, a liar, un-American, and wanted to sink the idea of our country. He was the first (probably in our lifetime) to just ignore the Supreme Court decisions and do his own thing; and he was probably told that no one would stop him-especially since the DOJ was on his side and he had his marching orders from the DS. Then Trump gets in and he sees that he is still "safe" and no one is coming after him. I certainly hope that changes when Trump gets back in office and Obama is one of the first, if not the first treasonous person Trump goes after. Obama, is the enemy within that Kamala wanted to talk about with Brett Bair last night-only she thinks it was/is Trump. They know he will be coming for them.
I do believe he was "seen" as the things you state and made to look that way by the MSM, (you certainly nailed the MSM in your statement) but he was none of those and only cared about himself and his ideology.
