As a fellow Christian I’d go easy on that “never forgive”. We can forgive, but it doesn’t mean your free to go. I have zero problems forgiving someone whose behind bars, or worse, for their crimes against so many. I’ll gladly look them in the eye and forgive them. And this is after I’ve buried family members, and even as I speak, more are fighting cancers from that death jab. But I’ll forgive you. But you’ll have to face the music. Whatever it may be. Jesus forgives. And so will I. But Justice is justice. And to be a person that follows Christ, do not fear your judgment. Just know that you can be forgiven, always, but your punishment on this side of eternity will still happen. It should happen.
Depends on the crime. God can forgive, but he's God and he can do all things. I'm only human. There is no forgiveness for certain crimes. Like crimes against children. Pretty sure even Jesus hinted at there being no forgiveness for them either, millstones and all.
The millstone reference isn’t about children, as in little kids. This has been the greatest misquoting of the gospel I think I’ve ever seen. Esp here on these forums. That reference is about new Christians. Those who have just came to know their savior Jesus, their God, with their childlike faith..the warning is against those who try and misinform them or derail them. It really refers to Satan and those who follow him. For new, reborn individuals, Christians, Satan goes after them terribly. And because of their new found heart, their childlike faith, they could be easier to fool. That scripture of the millstone is in reference to them. Not some joker at a Diddy party. No, we are commanded to forgive as Christ would forgive. The word commanded may have not been used, but it basically has.
Matthew:18 20-35. When Peter asked how times should he forgive? Jesus says 77 times. Which mean’s basically, forever forgiveness. There is never a time we should not forgive. Ever. It may be hard to forgive sure. It may takes years. But, if you cannot forgive, then why should God forgive you? These are conversations those who have God in their life should have with Jesus. Ask God to help you forgive. He knows you better than you know yourself. But understand, God wants you to forgive. And don’t we all want to please the Father? Of course we do.
That’s called God’s Wrath. And mercy. He coulda wiped out everyone. Your here because he had mercy and love for mankind. And there was literally only a handful of people that still believed and trusted in God. And those survivors spared are your ancestors.
When Peter asked how times should he forgive? Jesus says 77 times. Which mean’s basically, forever forgiveness.
Oh please 77 is a very specific and limited number. Go to any court in the land and ask a domestic abuse victim how many times she has forgiven him. 77 times? Those are rookie numbers. That won't even get you on COPS.
We’re talking about when Jesus spoke to Peter about forgiveness, not some episode in COPS. In that time period, their beliefs, if you forgave someone, even your own family member more than 2-3 times, you were a fool. So Peter, in frustration asked Jesus, we’ll how many times should I forgive someone..seven times? And seven times would’ve been ridiculous! And Jesus says not seven times, but seventy seven times. He’s telling Peter with this insane high number that there is no limit to forgive someone.
Matthew :18 21-22
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times
Jesus Christ tells us to love our enemies. Not to curse them.but to bless them. There are no exceptiins. The great purpose of that command is to be followers of God as dear children and the love of God in manifestation never fails. Its not an emotion to love os a deliberate act of obedience, as God says "this is my love, that you keep my word". We can still hold them accountable without ruining our own walks with God.
Well Flynn seems to be a devout Christian. He talks about his faith all the time, I mean a lot. So when a person like that says “I will never forgive”, it lessens his testimony. As a Christian you represent Christ. That’s scripture. So we should always watch what, and how we say things. That’s also scripture. Look to Paul for much of that. So as I said in my original comment, I’d go easy on that no forgiveness stuff. You don’t want to be responsible for other Christians following suit, when God expects us to be a certain way. Flynn has a responsibility. I wanna think he is just be hard right now. But it’s the job of his fellow Christians to call him out if he steps out of line. As for myself as well. We wanna represent Christ as best we can right? So we help each other.
So when a person like that says “I will never forgive”, it lessens his testimony.
When a person like Flynn says "I am Irish", it means that he has inherited grudges from his Great-great-great Grandmother, and has no intention of forgiving you for what your family said about our Bridget, ya bastards.
LoL. Well being a Christian exceeds a person's lineage. Your bloodline ain’t gonna mean squat when you stand before the Father. But covered in the blood of Christ will.
Eh, he's probably that variety of "devout Christian" who has never read the Bible, doesn't go to church, but constantly talks about how much they love God/Jesus.
And then they constantly argue against what Jesus and God say in the Bible, because it doesn't suit them, personally.
There seems to be some Christians exactly like that in this very discussion. Amazing. 🤷♀️
You don’t have to go to church to be a true Christian. We all have the ability to have a personal relationship with the one true living God and our savior. Reading the bible doesn’t hurt though but some versions can lead you astray as can some churches. Discernment is an important tool when navigating your spiritual journey.
As I said. Correct, nowhere does it say the forgiven won’t face consequences. The whole discussion here is about one’s forgiveness for another. As God teaches us.

When God destroyed everything with a flood , was that forgiveness?

Exactly my point. Jesus didn't hint at forgiveness for them.
Jesus just said to love and forgive everyone. He didn't break them down by what their sins were, as far as I'm aware.
Who did you buy your Bible from? You might want to get a refund.
Came to say similar thing.
Forgiveness doesnt exclude justice. I think he was speaking in that sense.

I think the forgiveness is inter personal. Matters of state must be adjudicated in this realm according to the rule of law.
As I explained yes.
Forgiveness is actually a benefit to the forgiver because it means they can move on. It doesn't mean the forgiven doesn't face consequences.
