OP (literary, poetic, rhetorical, allegorical Frog): The darkest hour is before dawn.
Nerd, literalistic, Frog: um, no, technically its not. The darkest hour is 2am to 3am. I hate this saying.
Narrative Buster: Um, 2 or 3 pm is STILL before the dawn. So the Darkest Hour is indeed before the dawn. Perhaps not directly before the dawn, but still chronologically, before the dawn. It surely ain't AFTER the dawn, is it!
Liberate the saying! Indeed, it is darkest before the dawn! (But not just right before the dawn, in the literal sense!)
Annoyingly Unnecessary Commentary Frog: In the arctic circle, dawn can take place at 3 am or 4 am, depending on the time of the year. In some cases, there may only be one hour of darkness. P'haps the coiner of this saying was a Norwegian?
According to The Yale Book of Quotations, the earliest known version of the saying is in Thomas Fuller‘s, A Pisgah Sight of Palestine (1650) (“It is always darkest just before the Day dawneth”)
No. The darkest hour is around 2AM to 3AM. I hate this saying.
That being said, if this is about ending fraud, fine. As long as the people win.
