These drones are definitely feds. All the drones magically disappeared on Thanksgiving. Federal employees get that holiday off. If it was Iran or China, those drones would have been up that evening.

Pilots have asked air traffic control if military is operating within the area at the time of seeing drones. Response was no. Gonna go out on a limb here and say that if your training exercise involves pretending to be a threat, then you own every bullet, slingshot and rock thrown your way from people with both a right and a duty to respond to threats with force.
They could do this over parts of Nevada, Arizona, the Dakotas.. anywhere without the population density. But over Jersey? The chucklefucks that thought this would be a good idea need to have their noses bloodied.

And let's not forget that these drones have been regularly spotted directly over the Bedminster golf course and military base, the former of which is where President Trump frequently golfs and holds important meetings (there is a SCIF on site).
You should get used to seeing these in the air. It is a HEXA by Lift Aircraft. Evidently, you can take a ride on one in Austin, Texas, that is if you are brave. No runway or pilot's license required.

Multiple reports, including from the NJ governor that these drones "go dark" when people get close enough to film them. They literally darken when a camera is pointed at them within a specific proximity.
The other problem with this assertion is the loiter time. There are multiple reports of these drones loitering for multiple hours at a time despite being the size of a car. I'm not aware of any large consumer drones with that kind of loiter time. Most of the large drones (designed for carrying payloads) have max flight times of much less than an hour.
I don't know the "why" here though I have some speculations. But in terms of the "what", it's highly unlikely that these are not standard large consumer drones.
