Leaning into the Dew theory slowly here, but I do know that fire can be fickle in what it destroys. It's a combo of oxygen availability and positioning. It burns upwards first, then expands outwards as it finds new source material. It will go as high as it can as fast as it can. And the heat of a biiig fire can melt fridges so cars ain't a stretch...
Also, burning embers blown by the wind cause spotting. Which is why you get things burned next to things untouched.
