The problem is, the current monopoly owns nearly 100% of all pork in the US (not to mention chicken, beef, etc.). The other couple percent that is produced by real people is already a premium product. It is the only way they currently compete. If these mom and pop's were to attempt to fill the population's meat requirements, those of us "not buying from the corporations" wouldn't make a dent. The supply simply couldn't possibly fill the demand. We would starve.
This is the nature of a true monopoly. This can't fulfill "Supply and Demand."
The current, real world entire supply and demand system is determined by a single group of Board of Directors. Their power is complete. Trying to "pay with our pocketbook" would immediately fail. We The People can't currently do anything about that. Thus, the only reasonable path is to go to war.
"War" doesn't mean go out and shoot people. It simply means that the "normal" path can't be selected. For example, we could simply take all the land (and/or pigs, etc.). It would be "stealing," but so is war. If we just walked up to the land and took it, with enough numbers, that would be the beginning and end of the war, and the problem. We would reallocate the resources to real people; problem solved. No doubt about it though, It WOULD require war, just even if it was otherwise without bloodshed.
Buy directly from farmers. Better yet, become a farmer. The demans is there just waiting to be met with supply. Make the big protein fucks feel it!
First and foremost, the USDA needs to leave direct marketers alone. Regulation and all need to go. The red tape is there solely to hold us down and let the big ones own the field.
You’re exactly right but the problem is: I’m looking at a 78 acre patch. I can put a few head of cattle out there and be fine as long as the fence is good and solid. Pigs? Nope you gotta jump through hoops and hoops of red tape about sewage retention and runoff. Free range pigs are great food—pen raised not great. We butcher from a family farmer who doesn’t shoot ‘em up with tons of meds and we proudly pay the extra cost but he doesn’t think he will last past this year….
Depends on the area. We get farm pigs all the time, easy peasy. Tons of supply. The last few years demand shot through the roof and supply took about a year to stabilize for the new demand. They're handling it easily.
We also have a big Amish population, so that may have something to do with it.
Avoid Smithfield foods, as well as the many other brands which they now own.
Nathan's, Farmer John, Farmland, Eckrich, Margherita, Kretschmar, John Morrell, Healthy Ones, Gwaltney, Curly's, Cook's, Carando, Armour...

pigs can be rum behind a single hot wire of they get trained to it. That's something I'm about to look into my self.
Maybe ask the farmer friend if he'd guide you into it?
Hope your farming endeavor goes extra well for you, friend.
Buy me 10 acres, please. Creek, woods and pond would be awesome, as well.
Sounds like a monopoly.
Monopolies aren't bad if the Democrat's favorite CCP donors own them.
The Conservative Treehouse has some great articles about this exfiltration of wealth and how it works in their archives.
