One thing I think we fail to consider. There are more aspects to who Trump chose to fill a role that just that role. Consider:
Who fills the role
What powers are given the role.
From what position of power was the person nominated removed
Who fills the position left by nominee.
Not all cabinet level position are given the same width of authority.
Take Secretary of State for example. Marco Rubio is SoS, but in this role he has neither the Ukraine situation, or the Middle east inside his wheelhouse of responsibilities. Trump effectively remove him as a dangerous DeceptiCon from his position on the SSCI and Gang of Eight, while at the same time isolating him in his role as SoS.
Trump remove the Middle East from Rubio by the appointment Steven C. Witkoff to be Special Envoy to the Middle East. Then Trump removed Ukraine from Rubio by a Special Envoy to Ukraine, Rick Grenell.
Senator Marco Rubio will be State Dept Secretary with a short leash and a very limited portfolio.
We are being too shallow in our view of the strategy being employed in Trump moves. And must consider how removing Noem as governor of SD strengthens Trumps overall hand, and how Trump appointment of Holman removes key responsibilities like border enforcement from Noem's perview.
