I read a post by a lefty today claiming that Kendrick Lamar’s comms were about America being built on the backs of blacks. Obviously they weren’t paying much attention to the lyrics of this song if they believe that.
Maybe I’m too literal, but when I read the lyrics to Not Like Us it comes across as an internal civil war within Hip Hop, not a statement about American history.
Kendrick Lamar uses the track to criticize Drake's cultural identity, accusing him of exploiting Black American and Atlanta's hip-hop scenes for personal gain. This is evident in lyrics where Lamar suggests Drake leverages his connections in Atlanta for street credibility and financial benefit
Lamar's critique of Drake can be seen as part of a larger conversation about who gets to claim and benefit from Black cultural expressions, especially within hip-hop.

A safe bet if you just were just going by super bowl messaging over the last few decades.
Uhhh this is exactly what the Drake diss track is about. He and Drake go back and forth about it quite a bit.

But, I’m opened to be enlightened if I’m wrong.

“Once upon a time, all of us was in chains Homie still doubled down callin’ us some slaves Atlanta was the Mecca, buildin’ railroads and trains”
Not really.
Which is ironic because I'm sure they're both equally gay AF and fake/actors. Like Tupac who went to Juliard for ballet...
Tupac went Caput!
So now every rapper is gay? Pretty ignorant statement
It’s going around on Instagram too. But I told them. The mental gymnastics.
Two narratives are still being streamed to the people in America. One left and the other right. They not like us.
Those are the direct lyrics:
“Once upon a time, all of us was in chains Homie still doubled down callin’ us some slaves Atlanta was the Mecca, buildin’ railroads and trains”
