Ignorant question here: Wouldn't they have other hackable devices on them as well that cartels and other Aholes could use against them? Radios, vehicles equipped with GPS, cellphones, etc? It seems like there would be a lot of hackable tech beyond just cameras that could be exploited to find the soft spots for illegal crossings.
My guess is another leaker in one of the Fed orgs. FBI, CBP, ICE, DHS - and probably a dozen more I can't think of right now. We already had the leaker in Colorado - maybe that person was using the cam hack too.
A feature not a bug, methinks. A little state-sponsored back-dooring...
There are Reddit threads circulating on how to tap into their systems and know when they are nearby—Which is what sources say is reason behind the cams being pulled.
Obviously these cameras should only be offline and record directly to an internal hard drive or SD card. Whenever you see things being equipped with wireless technology when they don't need it for their function, that is a back-door. I say no to all smart devices or wifi/blutooth equipped devices whenever possible
This is also an opportunity for more "enhanced" border patrol measures. If it isn't recorded, they can "do whatever it takes" to stop illegals from entering.
This is an outstanding opportunity for CBP and ICE. Get some drones with a body cam and fly them around an area you are going into. Make sure you have agents around a wide perimeter, and catch them when they are trying to leave.
TRUE: Some genius decided to install the cams with identifiable broadcasting information with NFC and Bluetooth. ID 10 T errors

Some arseholse managed to hakc into their cams, and use the information to direct illegal crossings. So, the cams are gone.

Yep. One can still use radios, because they can rotate and skip bands constantly. But cells are a no-no when there are hackers afoot.

Ahh, I didn’t know about that. My thoughts went to they don’t want to show the horrors of child sex trafficking just yet.
That's not it. Remember, the cartels and coyotes have the same tech we do. Bluetooth was a really dumb idea.

If they catch on to drones, go to RC cars.
