I was questioned once, "How can anyone cheat the SSA", well here's one way & there are others as we will find out.
when my dad died in 1993 they wanted his last check back he got 2 days after he died...and they are getting away with this....times have changed. i wonder if i can collect until i am 150??
My Dad died in 2022 and he died two days short of month end. Social Security pulled his last check out of his Bank Account within a week, I had to scramble to cover outstanding checks. The letter came in the mail after the money was snatched back. Not even prorated for the month. If you don’t live thru the whole month, you don’t get that check.
figures........the honest ones get penalized and the crooks get paid.....when my dad died it was still paper checks lol....

SSA already has vehicles in place to draw back the payments made. ENFORCE THE EXISTING LAW!

Dead men don’t cash checks. Since SS checks are direct deposit, it should not be hard to follow the money to those getting it.

Still a bogus argument, since the birth dates should not be allowed to default to anything. They must be verified!

I was actually a COBOL (and FORTRAN) programmer and systems analyst / project leader in an "earlier life". Designed many government and insurance systems with date of birth as a personal data field. The date of birth did not default to anything!
** How can you have a verified person / identity without a date of birth?!? ** There are many people with the same or similar names. You have nothing nobody with just a name and no DOB. SHEESH!
These are hypothetical persons, not real persons, until you can establish a unique identity.

Maybe when they told us to learn to code, they should have specified the language. Does anyone even teach Cobol anymore? Right next door to the Fortran and Pascal classes?

Seems like there should be an edit check in the system - a complete individual record should be needed before a payment can be processed. DOB, SSN, address at a minimum.
