Wow…. Just wow. These antics are getting old. Professors pitching a fit.. not surprised.
Reinforcing the idea that the humanities are full of mentally unstable liberals. The Humanities lose most of their power over the public consciousness once they stop being a mandatory requirement to graduate college.
Because then the Humanities Professors will be too busy scheming, undermining, and competing with each other to keep their jobs as the amount of students taking their classes becomes finite. So they’ll be on thin ice.
I like where you’re going with this! His wife, also an English Professor at UWEC is on the ballot today running for a position on the Eau Claire School Board - apparently these demons need to get to the kids earlier than college. 🤦♀️
Once upon a time. The “Career Educators” were actually expected and often encouraged. To build a wealth of real world experience before returning to teach. Instead of immediately entering teaching.
There really wasn’t such thing as the Ivory Tower Professor who never strayed beyond the gates of the University. Or the dusty shelves of the archives. Outside of a few exceptions.
Depending on their era and their chosen field they filled a wide variety of roles. Advisors, Explorers, Architects, Soldiers, Sailors, Doctors, Surgeons, Writers, Adventurers, Engineers, even Mercenaries and so much more.
It might behoove us to some extent to readopt such expectations for educators. Both at the College level and even at the K-12 level.

“Terrorism, while lacking a universally agreed-upon definition, generally refers to the use or threat of violence to create fear and achieve political, ideological, or religious goals, often targeting civilians.”
Uh oh, someone's reality distortion field is failing. Cognitive Dissonance: This theory suggests that people seek psychological consistency, and when faced with conflicting beliefs or actions, they may reduce the discomfort by denying or distorting reality.
