My boys are 32, 31, and 29 so it's been years. It was when the original frenzy broke out. Every Saturday my husband would take the boys to some card shop and when they got a new pack they weren't allowed to TOUCH it until my husband looked and safely put a sleeve on the good ones and into the book they went. I have no idea how many books we have.
My youngest was a toddler at the time and I seriously considered putting him on stupid human tricks with Dave Letterman because he couldn't read or write but could name every single pokemon
Ha! One of my kids has a few.... probably worth something, maybe? I worked with a guy that had major pedophile vibes, and fostered kids. He was obsessed with Pokémon and always had figurines placed strategically on his work WebEx calls. I read a study about the relationship between Anime and child predators. There is something in the cartoon style that draws in the sickos... probably the wide-eyed innocent look of it.
My husband definitely got possessive of the cards because he didn't want the boys to mess up the rare ones, but I would pity the fool stupid enough to get near one of those boys. Actually no I wouldn't.
Lol if you're going down that path, then if you also play in the stock market, you're literally holding onto childish values. Same is true if you're collecting stamps or rare coins.
I still have Marvel trading cards, not in the same form as Pokemon, but they're like baseball cards except they're comic characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc.
Last I checked, some of the cards are worth in the 3k's in excellent value. I have yet to get them graded but I will. I also have comic books and again, some of them are like in the 5k's. Just need to wait til they enter the Golden age of comics then boom, 100k's.
My child is collecting Pokemon cards and we have some cards that's already worth in the hundreds.
Meanwhile, as a mom of 3 boys, I've got albums full of rare Pokemon cards that damn well better be worth something one day
When did you get them? Because their value has gone up significantly since about 2018 2019

GameStop now offers a grading / valuation service. It's really taking off and is a great vehicle for storing that wealth.

Stunning adult growth by holding onto childish values.
Stunning adolescent brain stagnation, picking a random part of a sentence and using it to be an asshole for no good reason.
