Wife and I paid 12K income tax for last year and we both worked lots of OT.
The no tax on SS, Tips, and OT was to gain voter support from Seniors, Majority liberal tipped people, and hard working OT folks in Unions. The real plan is no income tax at all, but it will have to be in phases. Tariffs aren't enough. Probably a VAT tax and even more government shrinkage.
Similar situation.. I was in a unique position where I could cash out or roll over my retirement plan to our new company's owners but my family's expenses have been stacking so much that I gave up my retirement fund to try and pay off my house. It wasn't enough thanks to all the taxes and penalties. Close, but not enough. 10+ years in an engineering dept. too. Not even a nice house. Our society is not thriving yet. Im glad to see all the good changes but I've yet to benefit.
A shame. My mother had many different jobs, but was a bank teller in 63 when she bought a home 50 bucks for 12 years and she eared 75 a week bring home. A single woman in the 60's...
If you work full time you should be able to live a decent life.
Engineering is a high skilled field and you shouldn't be in that situation.
Tucker Carlson interviewed Scott Bessent (Treas Secy) last week and Tucker asked him if DOGE's work and tariffs are going to be enough to remove the income tax and Bessent's answer was that it could relieve a lot of the burden from the individual taxpayer. I listened closely, 'eliminate' wasn't on the table, at least in this interview anyway. video 1 hour long approx. TC and Bessent intv
Would also make sense, though, to dangle the IRS relief or elimination of income tax closer to midterm elections and gain the bigger bang for the buck. Not only would that get the less-motivated voters to the polls for a midterm election but also might get voters to examine exactly who they would be putting into office or 'showing the door' with the midterm elections.

Cutting the fraud and waste alone covers most of rhe taxes.
If not resume cutting.
Trump spending 1T for military, which eventually needs trimming. We don't need to be the police for the world nor the bully's

They have to keep things running, so the IRS may fade away over time.
They need a big victory before mid-terms. Get rid of it NOW.
...midterm elections ? - mayb
VAT is a doom spiral. If they implement it, things will be a huge shitshow
