Points to ponder:
The 1968 Federal Firearms Act was predicated on, and inspired by, the assassinations of JFK, MLK, and RFK, with the idea that unregulated access to firearms by the citizens was a bad thing.... cuz JFK etc.
If what we are learning now about CIA and LBJ involvement in those assassinations, does this not undermine the 1968 Act and call for its repeal? Further, if the Act is repealed, is there any need for the ATF? Further, is the very existence of the ATF an unconstitutional restraint on the Second Amendmen?
I think you could just call it the AT with no F. Seriously, the repeal of the 1968 firearms act should be on the table with congress, and with President Trump making the push.
I don't use either of the AT, but does it really need regulation in addition to a corrupt FDA?
Now states like California and Colorado are attempting to curtail gun ownership.
Washington and Oregon will be next. All states with massive mail in fraud
Politicians pass these laws to fund raise and gain votes, knowing full well the Supreme Court will knock them down.

You make an important connection, TNBM. These un-Constitutional entities were predicated on events that the CIA almost certainly had deep involvement in.
Your point is especially important in that the connection between the FA / ATF and these assassinations is not well known or understood by many people who weren't around at that time.
Is there a legal element here? I'm not sure. But there certainly is an emotional one in terms of getting patriotic Americans to push harder for the repeal of that law and agency.
Thank you. The connection occurred to me last night as I was preparing to go to sleep. I recall my last thought was, "I sure do hope I can remember this when I wake up in the morning." Well...the old brain must be in overdrive, because as soon as I got on GAW the thought came back to me, fully formed, and not erased by a night's sleep. Ta-DAAAaa....
Well, I hope this does generate some conversation and perhaps plant a seed that grows and perhaps, just maybe, the Trump administration can consider.
Is it too much to ask that servants employed by the ATF, CIA, EPA, IRS, etc... Be banned from carrying fire arms while on duty (IF these agencies still exist after this administration). Label all of them Exploratory Agencies, which is only allowed to find criminal activity & had it over to a county sheriff who can decide how to proceed.
Zero reason for ANY of them to carry while on duty. Armed guards at the office, sure we can allow it. US marshals can do it, or former military can hired by an outside agency to protect the office buildings.
When agencies loose their ability to threaten citizens with death for non compliance, they will quickly lose trouble makers.
One of the things they said Oswald did is order the pistol and rifle he had through the mail. He provided a fake ID, that of "Alex J Hidell," and ordered the guns to Texas.
A couple of problems with this narrative.
In Texas at the time, you could walk into ANY store, pick up a gun, buy it, and walk out, WITHOUT showing ID. There was zero reason to order them through the mail.
The pistol would have been mailed to a registered freight office in Texas. Oswald would have had to gone there, with his ID, shown it to the staff, and only then could he have gotten his pistol. He did not have a state ID in the name of Hidell. So how did he get the pistol?
These orders typically took two weeks to fulfill. According to the paperwork the company who sold the guns got his order and then shipped the guns out the next day. They sent the guns before they even deposited the money. Unusual efficiency compared to every other order they had process in the past month.

Immediately after the shooting this became a big issue, that you could, apparently, just order guns through the mail and then assassinate a president! OMG! It got the whole mail order gun business shut down across the country as part of "obvious reform."
Anyways.. just another total coincidence from the JFK assassination.
Excellent historical context, thanks.
This is why talking to individuals with genuine knowledge is important. If we had a REAL press they would do this and report on it. Our guard dog ( press) has been a attack dog for the bad guys
Those are all very good points.
This legislation must be repealed. Or the government should have their guns confiscated as they are using firearms illegally.
Well, we are not going after bootleggers any longer. Tobacco is legal. Couldn't illegal firearms be a local police thing? By the way, 1/3 of the ATF employees are "administrative"
Administrative... and working from home, ya' think?
Administrative, working from home and related to someone in congress I'm guessing.
That act was null and void from its inception. That power was never delegated to government, and government was warned that it had no delegated power through the words of the 2nd Amendment.
What do you mean by restraint on the 2nd Amendment by the very existence of the ATF? Clarify, if you would.
Please note that I said "UNCONSTITUTIONAL restraint on the Second Amendment." That should be the only clarification of would need.
