LA To Institute Mass Layoffs Of City Workers In Wake Of $1 Billion Deficit
For many years now the narrative on California is that it is a country unto itself and it generates so many tax dollars the federal government and red states should be throwing a garden party in its honor. In reality, California is not a "donor state" as the Rockefeller Institute claims. It can't even support itself, let alone bolster the rest of the country.
This problem has become more evident in the past year as Los Angeles hits a budget deficit of a billion dollars and, the state government doesn't have the funds to help the city recover because of it's own $68 billion deficit.
In response to the lack of aid from the state or federal government, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass unveiled a proposed $13.9 billion municipal budget for fiscal year 2025-26, which includes more than 1,600 layoffs and the consolidation of four city departments in an effort to eliminate the overdraft. Though LA employs around 50,000 people in total and the layoffs might seem minor in comparison, the city's expansive programs require employee growth this year, not cuts.
Furthermore, it is likely that the 1600 fired workers are just the beginning. The city removed at least 2000 positions from its employee roster at the end of last year and is already moving to make cuts to existing workers.

Yes it will . I’m in San Diego admiring all the new growth on my jacaranda’s that will soon be a canvas of purple across the sky . The crape myrtles are in bloom full of all kinds of song birds singing about the wonderful day and how the owner of the property just filled their feeders and bird baths . I have a tall fountain right next to a sitting room window , it’s so beautiful to watch the birds come down to take a bath . I have other ones on the side of my house and they are used daily , it truly is a beautiful site . I do pray San Diego is spared from anymore destruction because they are hitting us hard !

Like most big budge projects funded by taxpayers, they will tax the crap out of virtually everyone to pay for something that benefits only a few. One of the classic cases is where municipalities will approve various real estate developments, knowing it will exceed their existing infrastructure, and later get EVERY TAXPAYER to pay the additional cost of the new infrastructure, all while the real estate developers and others involved make a ton of money, and likely don't even live in the municipality that is increasing the taxes to pay for it.
Part of my job involves dealing with wage garnishments. Most of the ones I see have to do with child support. What I have noticed lately is the picky BS coming from the state of CA. Traffic court. Things like that. The last two I got were for about $200 and $400 each. That's it. The state probably spent $1000 to send it out. It is...annoying.
If the economy is so good, how come I can't see ANY of the signs on the freeway because the brush is so overgrown? You know, that stuff that is fuel for the fires?
