This bill is nothing more than an advertising regulation to prevent politicos from spreading known deep fakes without a disclaimer.
There is NOTHING that prevents ANYONE from posting ANYTHING ANYWHERE.
The only change is that IF you're a political candidate (or in office, or a PAC), and IF you decide that you want to use fake AI shit in your PAID ADVERTISING, you must include a disclaimer.
Read the bill for yourself, and see if if I'm wrong (I'm not): https://legiscan.com/TX/text/HB366/2025
Now, if you got all up in arms believing that HB 366 was going to "criminalize political memes", it's time for you to reevaluate who you listen to, because they just propagandized you, and you fell for it.
We're in an information war, and without discernment and critical thought, you're just further contributing to the chaos.
Looks to prevent the dims from using edited videos of PDJT in their lying campaign commercials.
Lawmakers in Texas should have been smart enough to get the word out first. They dropped the ball, they should know patriots don't trust their RINO asses......
If they are so clueless, they don't know how social media works, they should retire..
Right?? The TxGOP failed miserably with the messaging for this one.
TBH i think so little of the TxGOP that I wasn't surprised by the original post. Oklahoma Arkansas Florida a lot of states are doing way better.
Anyone that can't see the Texas GOP is full of POS didn't pay attention when they were going after Ken Paxton as he was going after big pharma.
Most of those rats need run off the ship. We should start with our US Senator his dishonorable Cornholio.
Agreed 1000%.
There are at least 10 bills that the republicans put forward that should be way ahead of this.
Absolutely right thanks for noting this. Unrelated but also not - Texas republicans need a ground game ASAP. Left themselves open for this when a good tweet and ground game would have prevented misunderstandings
TxGOP needs to hire Scott Pressler (or someone similar) and give him a shit ton of money to run the ground game.
The people in charge now are so convinced that Texas will never go blue, that they cannot see their own impending doom.
Yes!!!!🙌
yup - basically how I read it as well.
Dade Phelan aka Paid Felon is a very poorly cloaked RINO. As speaker he was drunk while conducting House business on the floor and Paxton called him out on it. That’s when they went after Paxton. The new speaker is Burrows and he was literally elected by democrats and RINOS. Texas is not well and while this bill may look good on the surface we all know damn good and well how this will play out.
Dade Felon is absolutely a piece of ripe stinky shit. Burrows, too.
I’m not talking about them, I’m talking about the bill.
Did you bother reading it? Explain how exactly you believe this will “play out”?
Who decides if an ad has AI being used? What happens to a person if they are accused of using AI before a judge weighs in?
Look man, as much as I wish I could, I cannot think for you. Read the bill. It’s barely a page long.
Subsection (b) reads “…with the intent to influence an election”. That means the government, in order to secure a conviction, must PROVE INTENT to influence an election. Do you realize how hard it is to prove intent?
Basically, the government would need evidence like emails, phone calls, or text messages proving that the person posted it in order to influence an election.
Outside of evidence like that, there’s no proof of intent, therefore no crime.
So in order to be convicted, the following must ALL be true:
So even with all of that, you just have to add the stupid disclaimer and you’re golden.
If anything, this bill is red herring and I’d bet a couple thousand bucks that no one will ever be convicted under this bill.
Do you realize how easy it is to bring a case? And in doing so shut the person up that posted the meme until the case is heard? I’m more than capable of reading, but I also have seen how our justice system has been weaponized as of late. While this may be a difficult case to prove, it’s not too difficult to envision how it would be weaponized by the left.
And....this is the Whole Point! The dems don't care if someone goes to prison or not but only to cast doubt and delay till it no longer matters and their next PUPPET IS IN PLACE!!
While I respect your argument, if you follow it to its logical conclusion, then ANY law could be abused for lawfare. So why have laws at all?
I’m sorry, I’m not an anarchist, and I believe that we need laws to protect our rights.
I believe that if I run for office, my opponent shouldn’t be able to pay to distribute an AI generated video of me in a Nazi uniform.
This bill doesn’t even stop my opponent from doing that, it just requires that she add a disclaimer.
I’m sorry, there’s just too many points that the prosecution must prove for this bill to be anything more than political theater.
While I understand the fear (especially considering what Bidan did over the past 4 years), I’ve found it’s typically counterproductive to make decisions based on emotions (especially fear).
Downvoting me doesn’t make me wrong. Refute my points, coward.
I didn’t downvote you.
I know… I’m talking to the one who did, which is why I replied to myself and not you 😉
👍
I figured as much. Thank you.
Just going to point out that Trump’s Army won the meme war of 2024, the left can’t meme. With the passing of this bill all a leftist has to do is bring a case to a leftist activist judge in order to shut a candidate down. The left only has to bring an accusation against the candidate, it doesn’t have to be true in order for a judge to give an injunction against the candidate from running ANY AD, and therefore shutting their campaign down. If you don’t think we have leftist activist judges in Texas, I’ll refer you to Lena Hildago aka Dora the Explorer of Fort Bend County as well as K P George, also of Fort Bend County.
