Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat

Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment

Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way

Frens, I need some advice if you have it, please.
My daughter is sick with something, maybe a stomach bug. First, she was just not feeling great, then started feeling worse with body aching, especially her back. Then came diarrhea & vomiting. No fever, she couldn't really keep anything down. Decided to try ivermectin and it seemed to help, the next day she forgot to take it and started feeling bad again, took it next day and has been able to go to work for a few days & eat and hold down some food. Today it's back again, like it didn't go away all the way. She took another dose of ivermectin this afternoon, but she threw up dinner tonight & still has diarrhea. She's been really pale also. Husband told her to eat some watermelon which she has been able to hold down, so besides probably being dehydrated, he was thinking if her sugar is low since she hasn't been able to hold much down.
Can anyone think what she could have? No new medicines, no shots at all (no flu or clot shots). Only thing I can think of is either a stomach bug or food poisoning that's taking forever to clear up 🤷♀️ I hate for her to go to the doctor for this, because they probably won't do anything for her anyway. She can't afford to miss any work, so she's been pushing herself.
i think it's indigestion and oxalate buildup.. it's like your body needed a break...
maybe try fasting, just water and just eat salted butter and maybe sauerkraut to replace the old gut bacteria for a couple of days and see what happens
I would suggest a clear liquid diet, and a fast, to give the GI tract a total rest. Electrolytes are important, coconut water, ginger root tea, chamomile tea, a little raw honey in water, Pedialyte is manufactured, but better than Gatorade because there is no food coloring in it. Keep sipping ginger root tea, don't glug down fluids, sip all through the day. Rest when not at work. Stop worrying about eating, the body rejects foods when it heals, or is ill. I would even lay off the IV for a bit, just clear healing liquids that will nourish without eating.
Thank you. I made her chamomile tea last night, we thought about ginger but was worried it would be a little too much on her stomach as she just threw up her dinner. Told her to do ginger & chamomile teas today, also told her instead of water, to suck on ice chips if her stomach is upset to stay hydrated. She seemed to be ok with rice, toast & watermelon. Over the last week she has lost about 10 lbs, which is not a bad thing I guess as she is trying to lose weight, and she does eat a healthy diet.
ginger tea got me through my 1st trimester, it really does help naseau, I know it seems spicy, but sipping it is the way to go.
does not sound like gallbladder issue, but just in case, make sure no upper back pain where the pain reflexes to when there’s a gallbladder issue — shoulder blade area.
is there a naturopath doctor in your area? Hope she gets well.
Well, she said her whole back aches. I've been looking, but naturopath doctors are not easy to find unfortunately. Hopefully we will start seeing more with how people feel about doctors these days.
My son and daughter-in-law just had a similar thing. Son went to hospital for dehydration, after tests they said it was "astrovirus." I don't go for virology, but the IV certainly helped. DIL got it the next day: chicken soup, salt bath (soaking feet with warm water and Epsom salt).
Make sure she stays hydrated with plenty of electrolytes- either sea salt or Gatorade/Pedialyte. Salt is better to avoid sugar and flavorings; the salt will help her hold on to the water and expel whatever poison got to her gut.
Sorry to hear your son and daughter-in-law had this also. But I am glad to hear that what she has is probably just a virus and not something more serious. How long did it last for them?
Trying to keep her hydrated, even told her to suck on ice chips if necessary. Yes, a pinch of sea salt before drinking water is a good idea. Sometimes she can sip some chicken soup broth, but other times she just doesn't want it. Last night, she was so proud of herself for eating her dinner, lol... then within about an hour later it all came back up, poor girl. I know it's not funny, but the way she came and showed me her plate, and she was so happy she was actually able to eat her dinner even though it took her a little while to eat it.
Yeah, it wasn't fun. Thanks.
Lasted about 4 days for my son, 3 for DIL. But my son went to the hospital because he was near delirious from dehydration, although he only knew he was dehydrated after he got hooked up to and fixed by the IV drip. (He got sick first, which probably helped DIL take it more seriously from the get-go.)
She most likely has something that has interrupted her natural balance in her digestive tract. This is a time to back away from food, drink water, keep it super basic. Chicken noodle soup, rest, sleep and keep things from getting inflamed. Inflamation from something and a bug from somewhere usually show up like this. Ever hear of 'Montasumas Revenge' or the sorts, its digestive tract erruptive. You are near dissentary which is from unclean environments. So the body works itself out if you let it. Don't introduce too many new things here. Just let it settle, give the body the basics, water, rest and again the chicken noodle soup is the elixer. It just is. Make sure its super hot to kill all stuff, then let it rip. Should be back in no time.
Now if it goes longer, you still need to document the details. Places, times, what was consumed, C.S.I. time. Just be patient and work it through no need to panic , just be clear that the body can go days without food. Water and sleep goes a long way, if you keep all else clean.
Thank you! Yes, I've been telling her she needs to rest, but she can't afford to miss work (she still lives at home & just started new career as a hair stylist a yr ago, basically she's broke) and she feels guilty laying around the house, so she will go to the gym to work out a little bit. Made her some chamomile tea last night and told her today to add ginger in with the chamomile. Ice chips if water seems too much, sometimes chicken soup/broth is good and other times she just can't stand it.
She seemed to have improved when she took the ivermectin and when she didn't take it, it all came back. I know she only took it for maybe 2 days and then forgot the 3rd day.
She has hardly eaten much over the last week, but does at least get some fluids in. When she did take the ivermectin, she was able to eat some food without throwing it up, but like I said on 3rd day she forgot, and it came back. She can keep down toast and plain rice. She's lost about 10 lbs.
As we think about when this all started, it was after she went on a date and the guy took her to this horrible chinese restaurant. She said she didn't eat sushi, everything she ate was cooked, but we aren't ruling out that it could have been whatever she ate there. And no, she won't be going on anymore dates with that guy, lol.
Ivermectin is for little parasites, get some fenben in case tape worm or something
and fast and just eat salted butter, drink lots of water, get it all out in the bathroom
