As a FL resident, born and bred, I've watched as this state has cleared hundreds of thousands of acres for golf courses, luxury condos, luxury housing developments, strip malls, etc. The destruction of our waterways, Lake Okeechobee, the SW FL Gulf beaches, fish kills from the blue-green and red algae blooms are ALL a result of the piss poor land management of our beautiful State. Mainly at the hands of Big Sugar, Big Ag, and the giant mega developers like the Toll Brothers, Maronda Homes, and others. The urban and suburban sprawl is ridiculous down here. Our roads are falling apart, the traffic is near unbearable. We have jokes down here about how it takes an hour to get to Orlando from Orlando, to Miami from Miami, to Tampa from Tampa, etc. Name the big city Metro area, and the joke applies. Not to mention the fact that our AG Sec, FWC Commissioner, and others involved in the planning and zoning boards have all enriched themselves and their cronies from this at our environment's expense.
Then there's the invasive plant and animal species like apple snail, Chinese Tallow, Chinese Grape Vine (it chokes out everything and doesn't produce fruit), half a dozen species of monkeys like baboons, chimps, bonobos running around the Glades and Ocala Nat'l Forest, Nile Crocs, Nile Monitors, and the infamous pythons that are killing and feeding on the native wildlife at alarming rates. We also have piranha and their cousin, the pacu eating up the smaller fish that our native freshwater fish like bass prey on, and lionfish off our beaches that are killing our reefs and eating other fish species at rates that we can't keep up with. ALL of this is a result of the cronyism in our State, County, and City Bureaucracies.
IT NEEDS TO STOP!!!! But we can't stop it or at least slow it down by letting plans go through like this Algatraz, Gatortraz, or whatever you want to call it.
There's plenty of empty strip malls, failing malls, old and empty schools, and other structures here in FL that would be suitable for ICE. The Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp have lost enough land to these asshats. Our waters, food, and even our people have been poisoned enough. There isn't one South Florida County or city that doesn't get their drinking water from the Everglades. And their isn't one S.FL household that isn't being poisoned by the pesticide and herbicide runoff into the Everglades. Every chemical Big Sugar and Big Ag uses around the Lake Okeechobee/Big Cypress/Everglades basin has been found in S.FL water management districts.
Open up Alcatraz again, or build a giant super facility in the middle of Death Valley or somewhere else, anywhere else that won't damage an already taxed ecosystem. The last thing any of us here in FL want to see in the Everglades is a giant mega structure housing thousands of illegals that could easily just be deported, like Trump promised.
I can tell you right now, based on the responses I've seen online from Florida Residents, both native and transplanted, this initiative will die before one tree is ever cut down for this project.
This is a protest I'm willing to take up and show up for, because if bullshit like this is allowed to continue, we won't have an Everglades for the future generations to love and enjoy.
80+% of Nevada is federally owned. Surely thereβs lots of room out there to house illegals, perhaps on existing military bases. Just read as of May 2025 ICE uses more than 190 different facilities for detention across more than 40 states and U.S. territories. I agree the Everglades need protecting. Our family roots are in FL so weβve seen the generational changes. Gitmoβs close by, and makes better sense imho.
I am a Florida resident as well since 2019 in Naples. These evil Zionists came here and built and built and built non stop, they still burning our beautiful vegetation and have killed a lot of animals. I wonder who is giving the permissions to built plus they are giving away our lands for free because these RINOS donβt give a shit about the animals. I have cried a lot and complaint so many times with DeSantis, unfortunately he is in cahoots with them. Instead of taking the illegals back I noticed they are more in our towns and cities. Instead of being a small town like it used to be, now it is full of illegals and our towns have changed completely. All the stores and hospitals are only Spanish speakers or from Haiti. It is like we are in another country. What a disgrace. I do agree π― % NO to build. Hate these politicians. By the way, these illegals that are in our towns and cities are going to change Florida from Red to blue. I guarantee you that if we donβt get them out of here, we need the precipice NOW for them to leave this country otherwise they will not do it.
I'm sure PITA will oppose this in concern for the gators, croks and pythons health due to the possibility of them eating the filthy vermin that may try to escape....
As a Florida native, I recognize the proposed location of this facility as the old Miami Jetport. It was started as an airport to accommodate SST aircraft, but the plans changed after one runway was built. It can accommodate 747s. The land is not pristine, it is already filled and built up. The runway has been maintained by Dade County aviation dept continuously since the 60s. It is used for jet pilot training and at one point in the late 70s to early 80s was a favorite strip for product airdrops coming from Colombia. The location is remote but has support roads already in place. It is just a few miles north of Tamiami Trail US41. Any escapees would have a very hard time making it back to civilization. Just think back to the time of the Miami drug wars and recall the hundreds of people/ bodies who were disposed of in this area never to be found. Making this location a detention center would be s good use without disturbing the pristine Everglades.
Any escapees would have a very hard time making it back to civilization.
If the strip was already used by Columbians for trafficking I'm sure that if we put traffickers there and they managed to escape, helicopters would easily extract them. The helicopters would come in low from inside the US and not be seen.
If the prison was somewhere like Alcatraz (surrounded by a LOT of water) it would be far easier to defend.
Coming in under radar is a myth, we monitor to the surface. Florida has flat terrain. Elevation of the site is 13' above sea level which is considered high for the area. The only road in and out of the facility is easily monitored and patrolled. That access road leads to US41, also easily monitored and patrolled due to its construction as a roadway built on fill dredged from the 40' deep canals lining both sides of the roadway. Aside from the occasional cypress hammock, there is no dry land in that area. It is literalky a swamp of deep muck, water and sawgrass. If you've been out to deep Everglades, you would understand that unprepared, unskilled escapees have no chance of escape and no place to hide from FLIR equipped helicopters. Secondly, with the nature of the wildlife there, searches would quickly become body recoveries.
I like your idea.. Now to get someone to hear your suggestion.. Something already there.. There are also plenty if empty malls and schools across Florida..
In my home county, there is a large prison located on Alligator Road in Maul Swamp. An escapee would have to wade through a swamp full of alligators, bears, and panthers to get out. And yes, there are panthers, as I saw one when driving in the area one night. It came from the left shoulder, hit the centerline, and then hit the right shoulder and disappeared.
NO!!!!!

I AGREE, and death valley sounds like a perfect substitute.

Good to know.

Someone here must have heard what I said about throwing them into the glades.
As hard as it was to Escape from Alcatraz, it didn't have alligators and crocodiles.
Florida Glades would be harder. I remember someone escaped Alcatraz b4.

LOL
The down voter must be a filthy vermin fan....
Hugh pythons and alligators would deter escape.
Right.
kek. Hugh Python sounds like a porn name.

Oh okay. Now that's some great information and location. I am not a native there so don't have any idea.
Thanks.
I like your idea.. Now to get someone to hear your suggestion.. Something already there.. There are also plenty if empty malls and schools across Florida..
Site the sucker next to the abandoned Everglades International Jetport, and you can fly 'em right out with no muss/no fuss.
That's what I heard. It's already built.

A swamp is a great place for a prison.
And quicksand, and snakes! While visiting friends in NC, as kids, we were warned of all these dangers. Great location!π
Amen
Alligators? Too good for these detainees, get some box jellyfish from Aussie.
Oh yeah. That's right.
You can see his friking face, RINO mother fuck.. er. He is sold by these big developers, wonder how much he get for doing this.
I heard there's a site that already there could be utilized.
I hope, I am tired of these sold evil monsters we have on earth.
Get eaten by gators would be the best punishment.
Agreed. Brain_dead you are thinking exactly like me. π My sister was defending them, now she is complaining all the time about them. π
She freaking wake up. LOL
Yep

Thank you. I was just freaking out, but you never know what will happen with it, so donβt trust anyone.
Very nice. Thanks.
