Agreed. My father, a very smart man, said that medical insurance was the beginning of the end for good medical care. He was against all insurance, on principle. He passed 45 years ago - he'd be appalled by America today.
What is wrong is the propping up of broken, corrupted systems, as if they are necessary or beneficial. That's why we're in the mess we're in.... Dept of Ed, HHS, etc, etc, etc
Interesting timing. My insurance, BCBS, just informed me that the Dr would need to start contacting them moving forward to pre authorize a med that I have been taking for years. Why the hell would my Dr need to justify my med with the insurance company.
When my oldest was a baby/child, he suffered with frequent sinus infections/ ear infections and fluid behind his eardrums. There was no state medical coverage at that time. A Dr appt was $20 and I could pay over time. Was also no prescription coverage. He was prescribed, almost monthly, a liquid steroid that was a one ounce bottle of meds, cost $100. My parents helped me and paid for it, because I couldn't afford it. So, in some things, insurance has helped, but others, not so much.
Like uhhh you know insurance is passing your responsibility onto someone else, right?
It would be if you didn't have to pay for it. You're sharing responsibility with others. Which is fine is a private model but is insane in a public model.
I'm not being responsible if I don't have insurance
You're opening the door to ruining your life. If you're unconscious somewhere you can't make medical decisions. A default set of decisions are made for you. You're going to be billed for them anyways.
Your insurance agent knows way more about hospital billing than you ever could. Which is fine in a regulated model but is insane when hospitals and insurance work together.
The ideas are perfectly fine. The implementations are not.
I despise insurance companies. Perfect example we have the possibility of an antibody clinical trial that that is the best hope of cure for my son’s cancer BUT the insurance company is dragging its feet playing games. First they send us to the wrong primary they claimed was in network and had to write the referrals to the cancer hospital then they claimed they never sent us there although I have the recording that proves otherwise so then we go to the other primary in the same office but different doctor who writes us the referral but then they claimed they didn’t get it although they printed me a copy and the same exact person sent the first from the “wrong” doctor. They do all this after I called for preapproval from our insurance company and they were good until 3 days before his visit. So they canceled our appointment for follow up from the hospitalization for the second time. If it were not for the naturopath and the parasite protocols I learned here from one of you AMAZING frens my son would be not likely be here now. It is crazy making to go through all these hells and have a cure dangled then snatched back because of insurance companies who ironically would save money if he was cured. I so done. God however is not done and that is where my hope is.
I am I must but I freely admit I am tired boss. Thankfully God is not done and I figure at the end of the day this is his fight so as long as I can run the race and help the boy understand he is worth the battle all the fight I have left will be enough
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
We should end insurance. Just another corrupt system.

Doctor came to your house and took care of you, probably for the cost of a bushel of apples.
People went to see a doctor, and paid a bill. Just like when you get a brake job on your car.
They did have catastrophic insurance (hospital) for big expenses. Along with charity organizations/people for the poor.
Each needs to be responsible for his/her own. And be generous to those who CAN"T.
IMO not great, but better than now.

" the propping up of broken, corrupted systems,"
...my money is on laissez faire with the status quo...

Thank you very much. I genuinely needed that
