A few short years ago, I worked in Oak Ridge, TN, in the nuclear field, and where I live now is about 15 minutes from Oak Ridge. I've always known, even as a child growing up in the remote mountains of east Tennessee, the importance of Oak Ridge and its ongoing research functions, but this is quite interesting news. Some of the brightest and most gifted people in the world work there, and it was a pleasure to have known them.
Actually not kidding. I am the guy behind a lot of the cool military toys that you hear about frequently and several that you don’t hear about. There’s a lot more cool stuff that could have made it if I didn’t go the small business route.
Thanks. It’s excellent genetics. Two inventors and three painters on my Mom’s side and my Dad is the smartest person I have ever known. Currently working extreme weather, stealth boats and the equivalent of 7G communications.
When it comes to funding, I probably should have gone the AI route like my nephew in-law because I was way ahead of my time.
I am semi-retired, so I get to enjoy the frens and help people understand what is going down from time to time.

have known them?
Are they still alive?
Several are, as I still hear about them from former coworkers, but I don't have contact with them anymore.
Ok.
Seventy Two million degrees!!! What could go wrong?
One step closer to the design I sent Popular Science when I was 13.

No pressure though. 😎😎

Color me jaded, but I've been told for decades fusion energy is "just around the corner".
Do you really think the powers that be would ever want us plebs to have cheap and unlimited energy?
No, they took away our clean nuclear energy, and want us having perpetual brownouts and other power / energy scarcity strife
"That seems hot. It must be theoretical. There's no way you could actually measure that." Captain Obvious.
I thought fusion was usually preceded by the word cold
Somehow 72 million degrees doesn't quite seem all that cold
Can't wait to learn more! :)
It doesn't mean you can hold the fusion in your hand ...
Cold meaning it isn't a nuclear bomb going off and creating massive uncontrollable heat release at once.
It can be done in a room

Just out of curiosity, how do they measure that?? And how would you check calibration on that equipment??
