I live near Houston. This is like a twice monthly occurrence here.

How is Houston now-a-days. I was spent some time there in the 80's, but understand that crime, particularly violent crime has gone up a lot.

The City of Houston is not bad, providing you avoid Downtown, East Houston, Southeast and Northeast Houston, West Houston and Southwest and Northwest Houston and South and North Houston.

The rest of it is quite pleasant.
