Does anyone know why Sep 7, 1776 is significant?

I'm only asking because I saw a post wishing the coastguard a happy birthday and the number on the boat was 758, and just out of curiosity I looked up the drop, and that's all it said.

I couldn't find anything specific that happened on that date, does anyone know?

Googled "Sept 7, 1776: this day in history:

On September 7, 1776, Ezra Lee attempted the world's first submarine attack in the Turtle submarine, trying to attach a time bomb to the hull of HMS Eagle in New York Harbor, according to American colonial reports. The Turtle, built by David Bushnell in 1775, was a small, one-person submarine designed to operate underwater for short periods.
