Caesar might have saved the Roman Republic, but his actions established a precedent for the future collapse. The American Republic also needs sufficient checks and balances.
The last I checked we still have three branches of government. They are to be equal in power and the Supreme Court just used it's authority to do just that.
They are to be equal in power, but we should have learned this very important lesson: systemic changes take time go complete. Once a change has been implemented, it takes even longer to undo.
